CULLMAN, Ala. – Meet local pageant queen, senior citizen advocate and community member Angie Carter. The Cullman Tribune recently sat down for a Q&A with Carter, Ms. Senior Cullman County.
CT: Tell us about your personal life, relationships and what your day-to-day activities look like!
AC: “I have been married for 44 years to my husband Kevin. We have three children and six grandkids. I have been employed with Cullman County Commission on Aging for 10 years. I’m the manager of the Fairview Senior Center. These seniors are my family, and I love each one of them.”
CT: Tell us about your pageant life and some of the things you have experienced.
AC: “I was crowned Ms. Senior Marshall County in 2022, and placed second in Ms. Senior Alabama 2022. In 2023, I was Ms. Senior Cullman County and first alternate in the Ms. Senior Alabama pageant. Kathy Paiml was crowned Ms. Senior Alabama for 2023. I’m going to compete one more time in June of 2024. The pageant will be held in Daphne, AL. To me, it is more than a pageant; it’s ladies helping ladies better themselves. It is a sisterhood like NO other.”
CT: What are things you enjoy doing in your spare time when not working or pageanting?
AC: “I enjoy spending time with my grandkids, and I love to decorate my home. I love being a senior center manager and spending time with them. Truly – I love everything that I do. I appreciate everyone who has supported me on this journey.”
CT: Why do you feel like it’s important to pour into local senior citizens?
AC: “Some of the people don’t have anyone but us. We deliver homebound meals to the ones who can’t drive and are not physically able to attend. It makes my heart smile when my senior friends enjoy coming each day. Volunteers are always needed at all the centers in Cullman County. Route drivers are the most needed to deliver to our homebound clients.”
Carter said if anyone is interested in being in the 2024 Ms. Senior Alabama pageant (ages 60-69) or the Ms. Super Senior Alabama pageant (70 years and older), contact Director Kim Crawford at 205-381-6767. “This is a nonprofit organization and one of the best I have been involved in,” she said.
