HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Miss Mud Creek Pageant will be making its inaugural debut on Saturday, April 27, at the Hanceville Lion’s Club,111 Michelle St. NW, starting at 10 a.m. with the baby group. There will be a $40 entry fee for contestants.

Organized by Hannah Gore, local resident and pageant director, Miss Mud Creek was conceived as a unique fundraiser to support Gore’s daughter, Layla, in her upcoming international pageant competition. However, it has grown into an opportunity to provide a platform for ladies of all ages to showcase their beauty, confidence and poise.

“Our main goal is to give ladies, of all ages, a platform to feel beautiful and confident. There’s always been a bit of a negative stigma about pageants, but I can’t tell you the amount of confidence my daughter has gained from participating in them throughout the years. Not only does she have self-confidence, but she is poised and has great speaking and communication skills. Not to mention the friendships and bonds she has made with other pageant contestants,” Gore explained.

The pageant is open to contestants from all locations, with no residency restrictions. It aims to be beginner friendly, offering a welcoming atmosphere for first-time participants.

“We wanted Miss Mud Creek to be a great ‘beginner-friendly’ pageant. We all know how overwhelming pageants can be. The costs alone can scare people off. Not only are you paying an entry fee, but you have to purchase a pageant dress, the correct shoes and earrings, pay for hair and makeup and possibly get a spray tan or your nails done. Everything adds up. With Miss Mud Creek we wanted to offer a low entry fee and a ‘no pageant dress’ rule, so that girls can come out and compete to see if it’s something they enjoy, without breaking the bank,” Gore stated.

Contestants will compete in a single category: beauty walk or modeling. The dress code is simple, requiring only heirloom, Sunday best or cocktail dresses.

The pageant will feature seven groups in total, divided into the following age groups: 0-2 years, 3-4 years, 5-6 years, 7-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-17 years and 18 and older. Participants will be judged on poise, personality and confidence. The contestant with the highest score in each group will be crowned “Queen” and will receive a crown, sash and free entry into the Hanceville Civitan Club Christmas Parade. Alternates and side award winners will also receive accolades.

“We are excited about the first-ever Miss Mud Creek! People should expect a small, fun event. Hopefully, this will be an event we can continue to host every year,” Gore shared.

She also highlighted her personal excitement and the community-oriented nature of the pageant, saying, “I am personally excited about meeting new people and potentially making some little girls feel like princesses for a day. If we can help boost anyone’s self-confidence, even by a little bit, then I would say that the event was a win. Hanceville is such an amazing community, and we hope to grow this event in the future to be able to give back in any way we can.”
