PREP BASEBALL PLAYOFFS: Fairview falls at Madison Academy

MADISON, Ala. – Fairview traveled to Madison Academy to battle the Mustangs in the opening round of the state playoffs Friday afternoon but unfortunately for Aggie fans, Madison Academy was able to take the first two games of the series to advance and end Fairview’s season at 21-13-1.

Madison Academy 4 – Fairview 0 (Game One)

After a scoreless first inning, an error and a fielder’s choice allowed the Mustangs to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Both starting pitches were dialed in over the next three innings as the Aggies and Mustangs combined for just three hits during the stretch. However, Madison Academy was finally able to break through in the sixth, plating a pair of runs on three hits to make it a 4-0 game going into the seventh. Fairview couldn’t respond in the final frame and dropped game one of the series 4-0.

Nicolas Gregory went the distance on the mound, allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Connor Scott finished with the lone hit in the loss for the Aggies.

Madison Academy 9 – Fairview 3 (Game Two)

Madison Academy took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Aggies responded in the bottom half of the inning when Connor Scott on a Barrett York RBI groundout to tie the game at 1. Jaxon Robertson drove Gannon Black in to score and give Fairview a 2-1 lead in the second inning, but the Mustangs answered with seven runs in the top of the third, pulling ahead 8-2.

A solo home run put Madison Academy in front 9-2 in the top of the fourth, but the Aggies got the run back in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the lead to 9-3 with an RBI single from Lucas West. After a scoreless fifth inning, Lincoln Wright drew a walk to lead off the sixth, Lucas West was hit by a pitch and Nicolas Gregory walked to load the bases, but Fairview was unable to capitalize and still trailed 9-3 going into the seventh.

The Aggies went down in order in the top of the seventh, allowing Madison Academy to secure a 9-3 win and capping a 21-13-1 season for Fairview.

West (one RBI) and Scott each posted a pair of hits in the loss. Robertson (one RBI), Gregory, Black and Kolt Redding each added a hit as well.
