FAIRVIEW, Ala. — In this interview, I talked to Fairview’s multi-sport standout Jaycee Aleman, and she made some incredible memories during her time as an Aggie. She played with a lot of great players and learned so much from some great coaches.
“In softball, it was definitely beating West Point in the area tournament, and in volleyball, it was being at tournaments and just being with the team all day, getting closer as friends. I was so close to all of the players. They were all very talented athletes, mostly Kabri Redding. In volleyball, there was never a dull moment with her,” Aleman said. “She knew how to put a smile on my face every single day. In softball, Bug Davis, Emily Benson, Ayda Payne, and Addison Phillips were probably the ones I was closest to. They all helped me get to where I am today, and I hope I’ll never lose any of our friendships. I love every single one of them and I’m thankful I got to finish with them.”
She added,
“Coach King and Coach Ball were like my best friends. I could go to them for anything. There was never a dull moment with them. They always tried to help me in any way they could. They always knew how to cheer me up and never gave up on me. They didn’t just teach us on the field; they taught us about life and how to push through obstacles. They taught us that nothing is going to be handed to us. We’d have to work for it and be the best we can be. They always checked to make sure we knew everything and always made sure we were taught as much as possible. I don’t think I’d be where I am today without either one of them. I’ve played with coach King for so long and I’ve played with/gotten coached with Coach Ball for a long time also. If I could pick anyone to be my coaches, it would still be them.”
Jaycee will remember all of the great people that came into her life at Fairview and will deeply miss playing there this year.
“I will remember Coach King, Coach Ball, Kabri Redding, Rossi King, Emily Benson, Bug Davis, Ayda Payne, Addison Phillips, and all my little underclassmen babies. What I’ll miss the most is when they ask me how to do something in practice and help them with anything they need help with, the long tournament days that we got to spend together, the goofing off, making jokes, the hard and fun practices, and just playing on the field and court with all of them.”
She talked about her favorite high school memories, and Fairview will hold a very special place in her heart.
“My favorite high school memories were the loud football games, the student section in basketball, softball, and volleyball, the friendships I’ve made, being on Homecoming Court, the homecoming weeks, learning to hit left-handed, doing a handshake with Coach Black every morning before first period, and beating West Point in softball,” she said. “What made Fairview a special place to go to were some of the teachers. I looked forward to going to school every day, because I knew there were teachers there that loved me and always tried their best to help me in any way they could. Also, our community is really close, and everyone is always willing to help out other people.”
Jaycee will remember some things during her time as an Aggie and will deeply miss being there this year. She will take away some things from being at Fairview and she gave some advice to the upcoming freshmen.
“I’ll definitely remember going to all the sporting events and just being around all my friends. I’ll definitely miss playing softball the most,” she said. “Sometimes, life’s not fair, push your hardest, and do your best, no matter what. My advice to the upcoming freshmen is to enjoy every moment, because it flies by fast, to always do your best in anything you do, and try to be involved in school activities to have the best high school years.”
She talked about her role models that she looked up to during her athletic career and her high school years. She talked about the best advice that someone ever gave her.
“In sports, my role models were Daisy Manasco, Katie Ball, my sister, Kyleigh Aleman, and Coach King. In high school, it would have to be Coach Black, Mrs. Watts, Mrs. Jean, and Mr. Feldner. I’ve always been very close with all these people throughout my high school years,” she said. “The best advice that someone ever gave me was to always do my best, and to never give up, even when it gets hard.”
