Derrick Myron Moore was a man of independence and self-determination, born Sep. 16, 1963. He was 59-years old.
All his life he wanted to drive an 18-wheeler because the road meant freedom to him. He covertly loved animals.
Derrick believed in God like his mother, Maitlan Hightower Moore, and voted Democrat like his father, Gordon Hopson Moore. They both precede him in death.
Sometime during the 80s, he picked up an interest in rock ballads from that era that he never put down. As a baby he was adorable. As a boy he was good looking. When he grew into a man, he was handsome. He passed these traits onto his twin sons, Zackery Derrick Moore, and Damon Myron Moore. He taught them to shave, throw a football and drive go carts. He once saved a dog from drowning, improvised the best Christmas tree using a houseplant, tinsel and homemade ornaments and was a third-party to introducing his sons to a love of reading.
Derrick admitted once that, like most people, he wished he could travel back in time as his younger self to right the wrongs he committed against people he loved.
Derrick hated the Power Rangers; the Ninja Turtles were alright. He loved food, but his culinary skills were limited to grilling meats.
Derrick would want us to know life is best lived with many miles behind us with even more ahead; this is done best with close friends. He is survived by his sons and his two brothers – Garry Moore and his wife Phyllis, and Ronnie Moore and his wife Stephanie. A memorial will be held 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023 at Nichol’s Funeral Home in Addison.
