HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville Police Department (HPD) is set to host Kids’ Night Out, an outreach event designed to familiarize the youngest members of our community with law enforcement and other local heroes on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, from 6-9 p.m. at C.W. Day Park in Hanceville. The event is free to the public and held rain or shine.

The event boasts a mechanical bull, pool access, free food and ice cream, train rides, carnival games, first responder demos and, of course, fireworks!

The HPD hopes the event will bridge the gap between youth and law enforcement, and emphasize the vital role that these children will eventually play in creating a safer community down the line. By reaching younger residents early, it hopes to form that bond of trust and understanding of law enforcement before it is needed through community engagement, early education and collaboration.

Police Chief Joshua Howell said the event is not only designed to be fun for kids and families, but also to show a clear message of support and intent of a safe community as a whole.

“Kids’ Night Out serves as a powerful reminder to children that law enforcement is not just about enforcing rules, it’s about ensuring their safety and well-being,” he explained. “This event helps children recognize that officers are here for them, to listen to their concerns and to address any fears they might have. In a world where news headlines can sometimes paint a negative picture of law enforcement, Kids’ Night Out offers a refreshing and positive perspective that reinforces the police department’s dedication to serving the community.”
