City school board presents strategic plan, recognizes artist

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City School Board at its meeting on Thursday, July 13, recognized upcoming second-grader Arleigh Pearson, who won third place in the Two-Dimensional Art category at the 2023 State Superintendent’s Visual Arts Show as a first-grade student at Cullman City Primary School.

Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff presented the 2023 Pillars of Commitment and Strategic Plan for the Future to the board. The plan was released to the public this week. According to Kallhoff, the presentation was put together to ensure the community was in alignment with the system’s strategic plan. He said community meetings were conducted throughout the area with input from more than 130 stakeholders including students, employees, parents and other community members. Surveys were also conducted to determine what the system does well and what can be improved.

The following agenda items were approved:

  • Summer stipends for attending Neuhaus Training for the following teachers: Tracie Kirkwood, Hannah Hunt, Kassey Cox, Amanda Tanner, Tera Thomas, Kristi Jackson and Kristina Kallhoff
  • Job Description for Preschool and Referral Specialist/SLP
  • Stipend for professional development training for Jenna Bates
  • Stipend for professional development training for Stephanie Childers
  • Stipend for professional development training for Leslie Dawson
  • Contract with Danielle Shelton to provide coaching duties from July 5, 2023-Aug. 1, 2023
  • Joint Purchasing Agreement with Sand Mountain CNP Cooperative for the 2023-2024 school year
  • 2023 Pillars of Commitment and Strategic Plan for the Future
  • Head Start contract Erika Lee, PFCE Manager, for a workday to prepare for the 2023-2024

The following consent agenda items were approved:

  • Salvage Listed Items from CHS Under Separate Cover
  • Out of state travel for CHS Fishing Team to Lake Hartwell, South Carolina on July 27-30
  • Out of state travel for CHS Football to Ducktown, Tennessee on July 28, 2023

The next Cullman City School Board meeting will be held Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. at West Elementary School.
