Cullman man drowns at Smith Lake

CULLMAN, Ala. – A Cullman man drowned in Smith Lake on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick identified the victim as Cody Lindsey, 36.

Lindsey was reported missing and possibly drowning shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday at Smith Lake Park after he reportedly went into the water to recover a personal watercraft.

Kilpatrick confirmed that Lindsey was pronounced deceased at the scene following a short search. 

“It’s an accidental drowning,” said Kilpatrick. “(The) reported drowning at Smith Lake Park boat ramp occurred at 4:12 p.m.”

Kilpatrick said Lindsey’s body was recovered just before 9 p.m. He said, “He jumped in to recover (a) Sea-Doo.”

Kilpatrick said departments that aided in the search and recovery included the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, the CCSO Dive Team, the Cullman County Coroner’s Office, ALEA Marine Patrol and volunteer fire departments from Trimble, Logan, Bethsadia and Crane Hill.
