HANCEVILLE, Ala. – You’d be hard-pressed to find a more classic, comforting sandwich than a grilled cheese. Whether a simple white bread and American single combo has your heart or you’re more into “designer” grilled cheeses with sourdough and sharp cheddar, there will be something for all at the third annual Grilled Cheese Festival on Saturday, May 27, starting at 9 a.m. in downtown Hanceville.

Festival organizer Valerie Hitt said the inspiration hit her when she wasn’t able to attend a similar festival in Tennessee, and she considered the economic impact something like that could have on her community.

“I had a business in Hanceville and thought an event like this would be something new to the community that everyone would enjoy, and would also help bring new people in to see what all was offered in downtown Hanceville!” she shared.

Festivalgoers this year will have tons of activities to choose from. A car and bike show will be going on, dozens of local artisans and makers will have their wares for sale and several food trucks will be on-site. For the thrill seekers among us, you can also throw axes or ride a mechanical bull.

Children are included in the fun as well, with a grilled cheese cook-off specifically for kids aged 10-15. Younger tots can enjoy face painting, balloon twisting, inflatables and games.

Junction 231 and Don’t Think Twice will provide the music, covering all your 90s acoustic favorites.

Hitt said she’s excited to see how the festival grows over the next few years, sharing, “We hope to see you all there, and let’s try to make this year even better than the last!”
