BREMEN – The Cold Springs Eagles hosted the Hanceville Bulldogs Friday night for the 2016 season opener.  After just three plays, there was a 45-minute lightning delay, with the game resuming at 8 p.m. The field was soggy, but the stands were packed.

The Eagles struck first with a late touchdown in the first quarter when senior running back, River Banks, rushed for a 25-yard gain to set up quarterback, Cayde Elliot, for the 5-yard punch in. The Eagles capped off the score with a 2-point conversion to end the first, up 8-0.

Hanceville bounced back in the second with a rushing touchdown by sophomore running back RJ Evans. The Bulldogs failed to complete their conversion attempt when the ball was fumbled, and the first half ended with the Eagles up 8-6.

The third quarter was all Hanceville as senior QB Branen Hurst turned on his jets with a pair of 20-yard rushes and 4-yard TD to cap it off. The quarter culminated with an 85-yard rushing touchdown for Hanceville by senior John Smalls, after the Eagles failed to find points in the Hanceville's red zone and turned the ball over on downs.

The game ended with little action in fourth, as both teams showed signs of fatigue after battling in the rain and mud. The Hanceville Bulldogs took home their season opener over the Cold Springs Eagles, 20-8.
