PREP SOFTBALL: Good Hope shuts out East Lawrence 16-0, Thursday scoring recap

GOOD HOPE, Ala. — Good Hope hosted the East Lawrence Lady Eagles in a Thursday afternoon softball matchup. It was all Lady Raiders from the start as they jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished it as they rolled to a 16-0 shutout win over East Lawrence.

Good Hope got their first run of the game in their opening at-bats. Bailey Keef reached on a bunt single with one out and later stole home to give them a 1-0 lead. The Lady Raiders added to their lead in their next at-bats. Natalie Miller drew a four-pitch walk, then Maggie O’Neil crossed home plate with one out to make it 2-0. Jolee McHan hit a single to center field to put runners on first and second with one out. Lizzy Steed then proceeded to hit a three-run inside-the park home run to push their lead to 5-0.

They blew the game wide open in the bottom of the third as they sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs. The big hits came from Steed (RBI single), Keef (two-run triple), Campbell Koch (RBI single), Carley Adams (two-run single), and Molly Benefield (RBI single). Good Hope ended the game in the fourth as Haley Lay hit an RBI groundout and Adams hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to give the Lady Raiders the 16-0 shutout win over the Lady Eagles.

Steed (four hits) and Adams (two hits) each finished with four RBIs for Good Hope. Keef added three hits and two RBIs. Benefield ended up with three hits and an RBI. Lay collected a pair of hits and an RBI in the contest. Koch and McHan each chipped in with a hit and RBI of their own, while Addyson Burgess added a pair of hits in the game as well. Benefield went the distance for the Lady Raiders, allowing just two hits, walking one, and striking out four.

Good Hope will host Cordova next Monday.

Hanceville 21 – Vinemont 1 (Softball)

After a scoreless first inning, Hanceville didn’t waste any time breaking the game wide open in the top of the second as they sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 14 runs. Alex and Aaliyah Twitty, Kyndall Abbott and Katelyn Twilley each hit an RBI single to help the Lady Bulldogs jump out to a quick 8-0 lead. Alex Twitty added a two-run double, Bentley Childers hit an RBI single, Abbott added a two-run double, and Lakin McBee collected an RBI single during that inning as well to give the Lady Bulldogs a 14-0 lead.

An Autumn Hensley RBI single put Vinemont in the run column in the bottom of the second, but Hanceville countered in the top of the third. Twilley hit a two-run double, Karrigan Pipkin added an RBI single, Childers drew a bases-loaded walk, Kynzlee Farr collected an RBI double, McBee hit an RBI single, and she later scored on a passed ball to make it a 21-1 game. The Lady Bulldogs would go on to roll past the Lady Eagles 21-1.

Twilley (three hits), Alex Twitty (two hits), and Abbott (two hits) each finished with three RBIs for Hanceville. McBee added a pair of hits and two RBIs. Aaliyah Twitty and Farr each ended up with a pair of hits and an RBI in the contest. Pipkin and Childers each collected a hit and an RBI as well. Isabella Spinks finished with three hits and Zoe Pitts chipped in with a hit of her own. Spinks went the distance as she allowed seven hits and one earned run, walked four, and struck out two. For Vinemont, Hensley finished with a hit and an RBI. Arleigh Thomason, Angela Harris, Emma Dortch, Berkley Gable, Haley Millwood, and Callie Millwood all added a hit as well.

Hanceville will travel to take on Fairview and Vinemont will head to Good Hope on Tuesday.

Holly Pond 6 – Appalachian 3 (Softball)

It was a pitcher’s duel to start out the game between Holly Pond and Appalachian as it was scoreless going into the third inning. Holly Pond would strike first as Bai Widner hit a one-out single, then Madyson Rickman hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to give the Lady Broncos a 2-0 lead. Holly Pond added another run in the top of the fourth as Ellie Burks hit an RBI groundout to make it 3-0, but the Lady Eagles countered in their half as an RBI triple, an RBI single, and a Lady Bronco error allowed them to tie the game up at three.

Holly Pond broke the tie in the fifth. Rickman hit a one-out double and later scored on a Molly Neal RBI single to give the Lady Broncos a 4-3 lead. Holly Pond added to their lead in the seventh. Widner hit a leadoff single and Rickman wasn’t done playing long ball as she hit her second home run of the game on the second pitch to push their lead to 6-3. Maggie Nail worked around a pair of two-out walks to record the final out of the game for Holly Pond as they ended up getting a 6-3 win over Appalachian.

Rickman finished with three hits, including a pair of two-run home runs, and four RBIs for Holly Pond. Neal added three hits and an RBI. Burks ended up with a hit and an RBI. Widner collected a pair of hits, while Maycie Black and Nail chipped in with a hit of their own. Nail went the distance for the Lady Broncos as she gave up just four hits and one earned run, walked four and struck out one. Holly Pond will now start preparing for the upcoming area tournament, which will start on May 1. 

They will host Cleveland that day at 4:30 p.m.
