Ona Mae Payne, age 96, of Houston, passed away April 19, 2023 at her residence.
She was born Nov. 2, 1926 in Double Springs, Alabama.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Double Springs Memorial Gardens. Brother Michael Walker will officiate.
Ona Mae is survived by her daughter, Dois Mae McGee; sons, William Earl Payne, Edward Junior Payne, and Thomas Malcolm Payne; grandchildren, Earl Payne, Rose Smitherman, Gwendolyn Ward, Wendy Collins, Curry Bell, James McGee, Shannon Payne, Dawn Payne, Tyson Payne, Derrick Payne, Helen Payne, and Matthew Payne; 23 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Curry “Speedy” Payne; parents, Houston and Sarah Cockrell; brothers, Wesley Cockrell, Travis Cockrell, Amos Cockrell, James Cockrell, and Clarence Cockrell; sisters, Willie Howard, Pearl McBride, and Ruby Kennedy; grandson, Mark Payne; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
