ARLEY, Ala. — Thursday morning was a special one at Meek High School. Three Tiger athletes were joined by family and friends in the library as they each committed to new destinations at the next level to continue their academic and athletic careers. Meek football standouts Blake Miller and Brayden Webster are taking their talents to Indiana to play for the Manchester College Spartans and Tigers cheerleader Evan Hutchins chose from a number of scholarship offers to continue his career at Shelton State.
Miller and Webster were big contributors to Meek High School’s first undefeated season last fall and helped lead the Tigers to a region championship. Webster, a defensive back, was selected as the winner of Coach’s award and was the two-time player of the week. Brayden will major in Sports Management and minor in entrepreneurship. Although he was a vital part of the Tiger’s rushing attack, Miller will be playing linebacker for the Spartans. Blake was selected as team captain and was a three-time player of the week. He also received the “Head Hunter” award for his defensively play. The town of Arley will now have a favorite football team in Indiana.
Meek High School’s State Champion cheer team also had a member committing today. While entertaining scholarship offers from numerous schools including the University of Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and others, Evan Hutchins committed to join Shelton State Community College’s cheer team this fall. Shelton State has been a perennial powerhouse in UCA College Cheerleading, winning 13 of the last 16 National Championships and Evan, a three-time UCA All-American, wants to experience and add to that tradition. While improving his skills at Shelton State, Evan plans on furthering his education before transferring to complete his goal of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in business and eventually opening his own cheer gym.
