‘The Mysterious Death of Tiffiney Crawford’ will air at 9 p.m. on CBS
CULLMAN, Ala. – When Tiffiney Joy Crawford, the founder of the popular online group Mothers Helping Mothers, was found dead at her family’s residence on May 3, 2017, it stunned the Cullman County community. The investigation into her death resulted in the arrest, trial and, ultimately, the conviction of her husband, Jason Crawford. Jason Crawford was found guilty of murder in November 2022 and on March 10, 2023, was sentenced to 99 years in prison for the crime.
Jason Crawford maintains that his wife committed suicide, shooting herself in the head twice. On Saturday, March 25, the case will be featured on “48 Hours” on CBS. “The Mysterious Death of Tiffiney Crawford” will feature Jason Crawford’s only media interview about the case and be hosted by journalist David Begnaud.
In a preview of Saturday’s episode, Jason Crawford stated, “My family and friends … they never questioned that I wouldn’t kill my wife.” When Begnaud asked him if there was anything about his relationship with his wife that led him to believe she was suicidal, he responded, “Not at the time. Looking back, just seeing how depressed she actually was and reading some of her journal makes me think she was hiding a lot of stuff.”
The Tribune spoke to Begnaud and asked why the case caught the interest of “48 Hours.”
“When we were researching this story, I listened to Jason Crawford’s 911 call to report that his wife had been shot. The operator repeatedly asks him, ‘Who’s she been shot by?’ He never responds,” Begnaud said. “I thought this was so intriguing, and I had a chance to ask him about this in my interview with Crawford.”
As Begnaud and his team researched the case further, he said, they had the chance to interview Megan Brock, a juror from the trial. She told Begnaud that the jury deliberated for several hours without reaching a verdict. Eventually, they asked to listen to the 911 recording.
“Megan Brock told me that 911 call sealed the deal. ‘That was it,” she said,’ said Begnaud.
“The Mysterious Death of Tiffiney Crawford” will premiere Saturday, March 25 at 9 p.m. CDT on CBS. It will also stream on Paramount+.
