CULLMAN, Ala. – Sacred Heart teacher Jennifer Grey’s second-grade students made their first confessions Wednesday, March 15. Parents and relatives attended, as well as some of the Benedictine Sisters from Sacred Heart Monastery.

Grey’s class has been participating in a pen pal project with the Sisters this year. Each month the students have been making crafts and writing letters to send to their special pen pals.

“The children love getting handwritten letters back from their new friends!” Grey said.

The students also had an opportunity to visit the Sisters at the Monastery, where they enjoyed a special lunch and a tour.

“The Sisters have been so supportive this year and visited the school to watch the second graders in a play, and several came for their First Confession!” said Grey.

The children will participate in their first Holy Communion in May and their Sister pen pals will be in attendance then, too.

Grey said she is proud of her students and excited for them.

“It is so nice to see the special bond that the students have made with their pen pals this year!” she said.
