ADDISON, Ala. – The Addison Lady Bulldogs hosted the Hubbertville Lady Lions in a sub-regional battle Monday night with a spot at the Northwest Regional on the line and Addison cruised to a 57-36 win. The Lady Bulldogs will now advance to play Covenant Christian at Wallace State’s Tom Drake Coliseum Thursday at either 3 p.m. or 6 p.m.
The first period had both teams seeming a little tight. Hubbertville scored first on a Kylee Dunn free throw to take a 1-0 lead. This would be the Lady Lions only lead of the night. Addison would take the lead on a Hadley “Shooter” Butler three and the Lady Dawgs were off and running. Addison and Hubbertville played really hard and good shots were tough to come by. Lady Lion Dunn would score 5 in the period to go along with 6 rebounds. Addison’s Gracie “Bug” Manley scored 4 points, while Brilyn Dover added a three-pointer. Lydia “Barbie” Ergle dominated the glass with 8 rebounds and a blocked shot in the first period. It looked like it might be a record setting night on the glass for Ergle but the dreaded foul trouble hindered her the remainder of the game. Addison had a 12-7 lead after one, but it really didn’t feel like Addison was in danger on this evening.
The second period had Addison’s lady to lady press defense really effect the Lady Lions. With Addison leading 12-8, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 11-0 run to take a commanding 23-8 lead. Manley scored on the inside with 9 points while “Magic” Molly Gilbreath and Butler scored 6 points apiece from deep. Hubbertville’s Layla Frederick had a three-pointer, while Dunn and Ella kate Currington had a free-throw apiece. Addison outscored the Lions 21-5 in the period to take a 33-12 lead into the half.
The second half had Hubbertville coming out fired up and it seemed that the Lady Dawgs were just a step slower in the third period. With Addison up 39-14, Hubbertville’s Ladies went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 39-24 and garner the momentum. The Lions were led by Frederick with 8 points and Nevaeh Hoobler with a three-pointer in the period. Addison’s Butler had 5 points while Manley chipped in 4 to try and keep the Dawgs in the lead. Addison was able to recover from the Hubbertville run and keep the lead into double digits. The Lady Lions actually won the period 13-11 to go into the fourth down 44-25.
The fourth was fairly equal with Addison taking the period 13-11 and Hubbertville never getting within 17 points. Manley led Addison with 6 points, while Butler had 4 more. Lady Lions Dunn and Currington each had 5 for the Lions in the period. Addison was able to come away with the fairly easy 57-36 victory. If you are a Lions fan your future is bright as the Lions do not start any seniors and the majority of their players are sophomores and below.
Addison moves on to Wallace to play an undetermined team while Hubbertville’s season draws to a close.

“I know I say it every week, but I am so proud of our team. It is the seniors last game at home, and they really stepped up with their leadership before and during the game. Our team has alot of players with different roles. Some are scorers, some rebounders, some play defense and others can do a little bit of everything. Tonight, everyone did their role. They did what was expected of them and when you do that good things can happen. As far as Wallace goes, I feel that we were a little bit intimidated by that place last year. It is kind of a different setup than what you usually play on and I don’t think that we handled it well. We made it a point to play two games there this year and plus we have that experience from last year to count on. I know our seniors will step up and continue to lead us in a positive direction.”

Addison was led by Manley with a game high 23 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Butler had 18 points, 2 boards, 7 assists and 2 steals. Gilbreath had 10 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Ergle had 2 points, 10 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block. Dover had 3 points, 4 boards, 2 assists and 3 steals. Katie Barrett had 1 point, 2 boards, 1 assist and 2 steals. Lauryn “Beemer” Cunningham had 2 rebounds and 1 steal.
Hubbertville was led by Dunn with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Frederick had 12 points and 5 boards. Currington had 6 points and 3 boards. Hoobler had 3 points and 3 boards. Georgia Gardner had 2 points and 4 rebounds. Kamryn Hubbert had 1 point and 2 rebounds. Cadee beth Hollingsworth and 2 rebounds.
