Fresh Michigan celery at Mages every Saturday. – Adv.  

To regulate the price of cotton, producers are going to hold one fifth of their crop and demand 15 cents a pound. They also threatened to reduce acreage next year. 

The Ladies Aid Society, of the First Baptist Church, will sponsor a Church Fair, in the building next door to the Democrat office, on Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m.  

The mother of J.A. Steele, who came from Sweden about a year ago, died at the Steele home, at Vinemont and was buried Sunday at Flint Creek.  

Music by the Alvis Brothers entertained a lively crowd at John Rehberg’s on Wednesday night.  

Fred J. Buchmann has bought the old Wine Cellar block and will utilize it for a depository for strawberry crates.  

George Williams is ginning cotton every day at Trimble.  

Professors Homer F. Morris and Taylor Morris will sing at Baileyton on Christmas Day.

A water tank belonging to the L and N Railroad, located at Phelan, was destroyed by fire last Tuesday.  

John Schmitt’s Market, in Hanceville, was damaged by fire on Monday when a gasoline heater exploded. 

94 people are in the cast of the minstrel to be presented by Saint Bernard College on December 19th.  

Some bagging stored on the third story of Peinhardt’s Store caught fire on Monday but was extinguished before much damage was done. 

From the files of 1954 

Charles Deppe, 86, died at the Cullman Hospital at one o’clock on Wednesday morning, December 15th after several years illness, following a stroke. Mr. Deppe was born on March 11, 1868, in Portsmouth, Ohio and came to Cullman when a young man and resided here with his uncle, the late Adam Dreher. In 1902, he was married to Jenney Finneran of New Port, Kentucky. She died in 1934. Until his retirement a few years ago, Mr. Deppe had been employed at Stiefelmeyer’s for 54 years. He had been a member of Saint John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church since coming to Cullman. Surviving are one daughter, Miss Margaret Deppe and a cousin, Mrs. C.A Stiefelmeyer. Funeral services were held at the residence this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with Reverend F.J. Mehrtens officiating and Moss Service directing interment in the City Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Graf Hart, Joe Jones, Emil Loegler, Doctor J.C. Frutiger, Bill Norton and Ralph Aldredge.
