GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Stash House restaurant in Good Hope is holding its inaugural Alabama Fall Rod Run, a three-day sell, swap or trade event, Nov. 4-6, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. each day. The Rod Run will allow anyone to drive in or pull their vehicle in on a trailer to park in a designated spot for the three-day period for a $200 donation to 2nd Chance Ministries. One-hundred spots are available.
Patrick “Katdaddy” Watson, owner of The Stash House, explained, “We’re asking for a $200 donation if someone wants to park a classic, a hot rod, parts, etc. in a designated spot for three days, kind of like a vendor, and then they would be able to sell, swap, trade their vehicles.”
While the event is predominantly for classic cars, any are welcome. Owners can buy a spot and advertise that their car is for sale. 50 vendor spots are also available.
To register, call 256-590-1484. Admission is free to for the public and free to those who wish to simply cruise in during any of the three days.
Watson was inspired by visits to the Pigeon Ford Rod Run events to put his own twist on the classic event. “I’ve been visiting Pigeon Forge my whole life and they have one up there, and I love old cars and old trucks and so does everybody in the South,” he said.
The donations will go to 2nd Chance Ministries, a ministry in its infant stages, founded by Watson’s daughter Hannah Lane McClendon and general managers of The Stash House Jennifer Jordan and Penny Lee Self. The ministry is run by women for displaced women and children.
Watson, who also acts as a minister for the group, said, “We’re trying to establish 2nd Chance Ministries as a church, but our end goal is to get housing for women so they can get back on their feet.”
He shared, “We’ve had several employees in the past that are single moms with children or someone who’s transient and trying to get back on their feet.”
After learning of several past employees’ struggles to find housing either after a disaster or domestic violence, Stash House members created 2nd Chance Ministries to offer support to women in need.
The Alabama Fall Rod Run is the first fundraising effort to go toward a house that will function as a women’s shelter.
Watson said he plans to host the Rod Run each year in the fall and spring. However, he also hopes that other groups in need of fundraisers will reach out and request use of the space. “I want more people to contact us and let us host an event because we have 6 acres of land here. Plenty of parking.”
He added, “This is a big place. We’re working toward growing this place so we can reach out and do more things.”
