DODGE CITY – A regular Dodge City Town Council meeting was held on Thursday night, with all members present. All five members of the council, along with Mayor Tawana Canada, received certificates of election, as each will be unopposed in the upcoming municipal election on Aug. 23.

Members of the council include:

  • Place 1- Jason Burney
  • Place 2- Murray Lowe
  • Place 3- Anthony Todd
  • Place 4- Inez McDonald
  • Place 5- Ervin Chumley

In regular business, Deputy Josh McKnight from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office reported a couple of accidents in the area. He also reported an incident of a suspicious vehicle and a fight. Other than that, he told the council, things have been pretty calm.

The council renewed the Town’s contract with the CCSO.

Plans for the resurfacing of the east sides of County Roads 223 and 236 are underway. Canada is charged with getting some price quotes for the project.

The council has decided to lease the gym building, next door to the town hall, to the senior citizens in the community. They will do a five-year lease. Sheriff Matt Gentry was at the meeting and said he could get them some free labor to help clean the place up and get it ready to be used.

Canada stated that she will begin looking at land and start getting price quotes for a new storm shelter for the area. She said the Town would also be applying for grants to cover the costs.

The Dodge City Town Council meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. (Tonight’s meeting was a rescheduled one.) The public is welcome to attend.
