PREP VOLLEYBALL: Good Hope sweeps tri-match at Hanceville

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Hanceville Lady Bulldogs hosted a tri-match with the Good Hope Lady Raiders and the Cold Springs Lady Eagles and Good Hope ended up sweeping both Hanceville and Cold Springs, while the Lady Eagles collected a sweep of their own over the Lady Bulldogs.

Good Hope 25 – Hanceville 12 (First Set)

A pair of early kills by Ivey Maddox gave Good Hope a 3-1 lead. Maddox would add an ace later on to make it 5-2 and Bailey Keef would make it 7-3 on a kill. Hanceville cut into the deficit as Charity Barnes collected consecutive aces to make it 7-6. A kill each from Maddox and Charly Johnson helped push Good Hope’s lead to 11-6. The Lady Raiders started to pull away from the Lady Bulldogs as an Emma Bailey ace and a pair of Maddox kills increased their lead to 18-7. The Lady Bulldogs would make it a 18-9 game, but they wouldn’t get any closer after that as Good Hope got a couple of late kills by Keef and that helped them take the first set, 25-12.

Maddox finished with five kills and an ace for Good Hope. Keef added a trio of kills. Johnson ended up with a pair of points and a kill. Bailey added an ace and Katie Creel collected a point. For Hanceville, Barnes finished with a pair of aces and Alivia White added an ace and a point.

Good Hope 25 – Hanceville 10 (Second Set)

It didn’t take long for Good Hope to build a huge lead in the second set. After Hanceville tied things up at one, Maddie McKenney quickly broke the tie with back-to-back aces and Johnson followed that up with a point to give them a 4-1 lead. The Lady Raiders would later push their lead to 7-1, but the Lady Bulldogs made it a 7-3 game on a White ace. Good Hope would break the game wide open as Addie Stripling collected four aces and Keef would add a pair of kills during their 8-0 run to make it 15-3. The Lady Raiders held a huge 19-6 lead, but Hanceville collected three straight points to cut it to 19-9. Good Hope finished the second set very strong as McKenney got the final two points of the contest on aces and the Lady Raiders rolled past the Lady Bulldogs, 25-10.

Stripling finished with four aces and a point for Good Hope. McKenney added four aces of her own. Maddox ended up with a pair of kills, an ace, and a point. Keef added a pair of kills. Jolee McHan ended up with an ace. Creel chipped in with a kill of her own, while Johnson and Bailey each collected a point. White finished with an ace for Hanceville.

Good Hope 25 – Hanceville 7 (Third Set)

Good Hope got off to an even better start in the third set as McKenney got a pair of aces and a point to help them jump out to a quick 5-0 lead. Maddox added a pair of kills and McKenney got yet another ace to push the Lady Raider lead to 9-0. Hanceville got on the board to make it 9-1, but the Lady Raiders made it 11-1 on a Stripling ace. The Lady Bulldogs cut it to 11-3 on a Kylee McGill kill, but Good Hope made sure they wouldn’t get any closer than that the rest of the way as back-to-back points by Keef and Bailey gave them a 13-3 lead. The Lady Raiders went on cruise control after that as an ace from Cameron Koch and a point by Mattie Wix helped seal the 25-7 win for Good Hope.

Keef finished with a trio of kills and a pair of points for Good Hope. McKenney added a trio of aces and a point. Bailey ended up with a pair of points and an ace. Maddox added a pair of kills. Stripling and Koch each collected an ace and Wix chipped in with a point. For Hanceville, McGill finished with a kill and Savana McAnnally added a point.

Good Hope 25 – Cold Springs 17 (First Set)

It was tight early on between Good Hope and Cold Springs in the first set. Alexis Tidwell got a point and Malaya Taylor followed that up with an ace to help give the Lady Eagles a 4-2 lead. The Lady Raiders came back to tie it up at five on a Stripling kill and later collected three more points, including a Keef kill, to give them an 8-5 lead. A little run by Cold Springs tied it up at eight and a Kaley Barger ace gave them a 10-9 lead. There would be five ties and several lead changes for a while. After the Lady Eagles tied things up at 14, Keef broke the tie with a point and Maddox collected a trio of aces during their 5-0 run as that gave Good Hope a 19-14 lead. A Creel ace and kills by Maddox and McKenney pushed the Lady Raider lead to 24-15 and would go on to take the first set, 25-17.

Keef finished with five points and a pair of kills for Good Hope. Maddox added a trio of aces, a kill, and a point. McKenney ended up with a pair of kills. Creel added a kill and an ace, and Stripling collected a kill. For Cold Springs, Taylor ended up with an ace and a kill. Barger added an ace. Ellanora Slusser ended up with a kill and Tidwell collected a point.

Good Hope 25 – Cold Springs 13 (Second Set)

Good Hope jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the second set and Cold Springs would later cut it to 5-3 on a Slusser kill. The Lady Raiders quickly added on to their lead as Maddox got a trio of aces and a kill, Keef got a kill of her own, and Bailey added a point, to help push their lead to 11-3. The Lady Eagles got a point by Ciara Calvert and an ace from Tidwell to help swivel the deficit to five at 11-6. Later on, Keef got a point and a kill to help increase the Lady Raider lead to 16-8, but a kill by Calvert made it a 16-10 game. Cold Springs would later make it 19-12 on a Tidwell kill and a point by Anna Stricklin, but Johnson got a kill and McKenney collected a pair of aces to push Good Hope’s lead to double-digits at 23-12. The Lady Raiders would go to sweep the Lady Eagles, 25-17, and 25-13.

Maddox finished with a trio of aces and a pair of kills for Good Hope. Keef added a pair of kills, a pair of points, and an ace. Bailey and McKenney each ended up with a pair of aces and a point. Johnson added a kill and a point, while Creel chipped in with a point of her own. For Cold Springs, Tidwell finished with a pair of kills and an ace. Calvert added a kill and a point. Slusser and Mary Warden each ended up with a kill. Barger added an ace, while Taylor and Stricklin each chipped in with a point of their own.

Cold Springs 25 – Hanceville 17 (First Set)

Hanceville’s Makenzie Twilley got a point and a kill to start out the first set as that gave the Lady Bulldogs an early 2-0 lead, but Cold Springs battled back and took a 3-2 lead on a Calvert kill. The Lady Eagles later pushed their lead to 6-3, but the Lady Bulldogs got the lead right back as Kayley Kahler added a kill and an ace to give them an 8-7 lead. Seven straight points by Cold Springs included a pair of Calvert aces and that helped increase their lead to 14-8. The Lady Eagles later made it 18-11 on a Taylor kill, but Hanceville made things a little interesting as a pair of aces from White helped cut the Hanceville deficit to just four at 18-14. Cold Springs responded by getting a kill by Calvert and Taylor followed that up with back-to-back aces to make it a 21-14 game. The Lady Eagles kept the Lady Bulldogs at arm’s length for the rest of the set as Cold Springs ended up getting the first set, 25-17.

Taylor finished with a pair of kills, a pair of aces, and a point for Cold Springs. Calvert added a pair of aces and a pair of kills, while Slusser and Warden each ended up with a kill. For Hanceville, Twilley finished with a kill, an ace, and a point. White added a pair of aces. Kahler ended up with a kill and an ace, while Barnes chipped in with a point of her own.

Cold Springs 25 – Hanceville 20 (Second Set)

Cameron Baty helped Cold Springs get off to a good start in the second set as she got back-to-back aces to give them a 3-0 lead, but Hanceville tied it up at three on a point by Twilley. Cold Springs held a slim 6-5 lead and later pushed their lead to 10-5 on a Calvert ace and a Carley Davis kill. An ace by Barger increased the Lady Eagle lead to 12-6, but the Lady Bulldogs later trimmed the deficit to four at 13-9 on a McGill ace, but Cold Springs later made it 18-11. That’s when Hanceville went on a huge run to take the lead as White got four aces during their 8-0 run and that gave them a 19-18 lead. Taylor got an ace of her own to give the Lady Eagles the lead right back at 20-19, but the Lady Bulldogs tied it up at 20. Cold Springs got a trio of aces from Warden, including the game-winning one, as that gave them the 25-20 win.

Warden finished with four aces for Cold Springs. Taylor added a trio of points and an ace. Baty ended up with a pair of aces of her own. Calvert, Barger, and Stricklin all added an ace, while Davis chipped in with a kill. White led the way for Hanceville with four aces. Barnes added a pair of kills. Twilley ended up with a pair of points and McGill added an ace.

All of the county teams will now start preparing for the Cullman County Volleyball Tournament, which will be next Monday and Tuesday.
