PREP VOLLEYBALL: Hanceville sweeps Asbury, Cullman Christian at home

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Hanceville Lady Bulldogs hosted Asbury and Cullman Christian on senior night Monday night and the Lady Bulldogs celebrated with a pair of wins. They knocked off the Lady Rams in three sets and ended up sweeping the Lady Lions in the next match 2-0.

Asbury 26 – Hanceville 24 (First Set)

Hanceville got off to a quick start in game one as Kayley Kahler collected a point, then a pair of aces and a kill by Alivia Taylor gave the Lady Bulldogs a 4-1 lead. Asbury tied the game up at five, but Hanceville got an ace from Kylee McGill to help them take a 7-5 lead. Another ace, this time by Makenzie Twilley, pushed the Lady Bulldog lead to 10-7. Hanceville made it 15-10 on consecutive aces from Kahler. Later on, the Lady Rams cut it to 20-19, but Karys Henderson got a kill to make it 21-19. Points by Kahler and Savanna McAnnally, plus a Charity Barnes ace, had the Lady Bulldogs one point away from taking game one. Asbury would have something to say about that as they scored the final seven points of the game to win, 26-24.

Kahler finished with three points and a pair of aces for Hanceville. White added a pair of aces and a kill. McAnnally ended up with two points and a kill. Barnes added an ace and a point. McGill and Twilley each finished with an ace and Henderson collected a kill.

Hanceville 25 – Asbury 20 (Second Set)

It went back-and-forth early on in game two between both teams. Neither team had a lead bigger than two until Asbury scored three straight points to grab a 10-7 lead. A point by Henderson and a Barnes ace made it 10-9, but the Lady Rams pushed their lead to 13-9. The Lady Bulldogs started a huge run as they scored eight in a row, seven of those points were aces by Kahler, and that gave them a 17-13 lead. Another late rally by Asbury gave them a 19-18 lead, but Hanceville answered once again with a big run of their own. A pair of McAnnally aces and a kill by Twilley gave them the lead right back at 24-19. Later on, McGill finished off game two with a kill as Hanceville collected a 25-20 win in game two to tie it up at one.

Kahler had a huge game as she finished with six aces, a point, and a kill for Hanceville. McGill added three kills and a pair of points. McAnnally ended up with a pair of aces and a point. Barnes added an ace and a point. White and Twilley each finished with a kill, while Henderson added a point.

Hanceville 16 – Asbury 14 (Third Set)

A point by McGill and a Kahler ace gave Hanceville a 3-1 lead. Asbury held a 5-3 lead after scoring four straight points, but back-to-back aces from White helped the Lady Bulldogs get the lead right back at 6-5. The third game was very close as neither team could get a run going. Twilley got a point for Hanceville as that tied it up at 10, but the Lady Rams held a 14-13 lead late and looked to get the win in game three. Hanceville, though, had other answers as a kill by Kahler tied things up at 14. She then collected consecutive aces to help the Lady Bulldogs win game three, 16-14, and win the series, 2-1.

Kahler finished with a trio of aces and a pair of kills for Hanceville. White added a pair of aces and a kill. McGill and Twilley each collected a point in the contest.

Hanceville 25 – Cullman Christian 21 (First Set)

Kahler carried over her strong performance against Asbury into Hanceville’s game against Cullman Christian as she collected a trio of aces to help give them an early 4-1 lead. The Lady Lions, though, tied the game up at five, but later on, a Kahler kill gave the Lady Bulldogs an 8-6 lead. Later in the game, a Twilley ace pushed Hanceville’s lead to 11-7. A Barnes ace kept their lead at four at 13-9. Another run by Cullman Christian tied things up once again, this time, at 14. White collected a kill and a pair of aces during her mini run to help give the Lady Bulldogs a 17-14 lead. McGill would do the same thing later on in the contest as she added a point and a pair of aces to increase the Hanceville lead to 22-17. The Lady Lions trimmed the deficit to 23-21, but the Lady Bulldogs got the final two points of the game to win game one, 25-21.

Kahler finished with three aces and a kill for Hanceville. White added a pair of aces, a kill, and a point. McGill ended up with two aces and a point. Twilley and Barnes each collected an ace in the contest as well.

Hanceville 25 – Cullman Christian 9 (Second Set)

It was close early on in game two as a McAnnally ace gave Hanceville a 5-3 lead. Cullman Christian made it a one-point game, but in a blink of an eye, the Lady Bulldogs went on an enormous run to quickly pull away from the Lady Lions. McGill was a woman amongst girls during that huge run, collecting five aces during Hanceville’s 10-0 run and that made it 15-4. The Lady Bulldogs made it 17-6 on a White kill and later on, they pushed it to 21-6 on back-to-back aces from Barnes. The Lady Bulldogs went on cruise control after that as they rolled to a 25-9 win in game two and collected a sweep in the process.

McGill had a huge game two as she finished with five aces, a kill, and a point for Hanceville (4-6). Kahler added a kill, a point, and a dig. Barnes ended up with a pair of aces. White added an ace and a kill and McAnnally collected an ace.

Hanceville will travel to Falkville to take on the Lady Blue Devils and Cold Springs Tuesday.
