Benjamin Colquett Reddick, age 57, died peacefully on Sept. 4, 2022, at his mother’s home in Cullman, AL, after a long illness. He was surrounded by loving family. Ben was born on Feb. 3, 1965, the youngest of five children of Ernest and Joan Reddick. He was known for his kindness, sense of humor, quick smile, generous spirit, and passion for soccer.
Ben attended Cullman High School his freshman year, transferring for his final three years to The McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN, where he distinguished himself in both academics and soccer. Selected for the TSSCA (Tennessee Secondary Soccer Coaches Association) All-State Team in 1983, he was captain of the All-Star East Tennessee team that won the state championship against the All-Star West Tennessee team that year. Ben then went on to play soccer for Sewanee-The University of the South all four years of his college career, where he was selected by the Collegiate Athletics Conference as All Conference in 1985 and All South in 1984 and 1986. While at Sewanee, he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Ben majored in Philosophy and was later admitted to the American Mensa society. Working as a private investigator for most of his career, Ben achieved the Certified Investigator designation in Florida and Tennessee.
He is preceded in death by his father: Ernest Leroy Reddick, Jr.; and his brother: John Walter Reddick. He is survived by his mother: Joan Godwin Reddick; and his siblings: Caroline Reddick Lawson (Tom), Allen Hilliard Reddick (Kirsten), and Ernest Leroy Reddick, III (Nancy); He is also survived by his former wife: Mary Moore Ward; and his step-children of whom he was so proud: Suzannah Lee Ward, Andrew Jameson Ward, and William Robert Ward; In addition, he will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews: Herschel Towles Hamner, III, (Lauren), Susanna Hamner Ridlehoover (Jeff), Celia Frances Townsend Reddick (Alain), James Allen Reddick, Ashley Reddick Caudy (Danny), John Charles Reddick, (Kelli); and great-nieces and nephews: Robert Pierce Hamner, Catherine Marlowe Hamner, Henry Sparks Hamner, Keza Uwumugambi Reddick, and Charlotte Anne Caudy.
There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, at Cullman City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to The McCallie Soccer Program at The McCallie School, 500 Dodds Avenue, Chattanooga, TN, 37404.
