CULLMAN, Ala. – On Saturday, members of Cullman’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2214 hosted a back-to-school bash for not only post members’ children, but also all students in Cullman and the surrounding areas. Children played on water-filled inflatables and ran freely while eating cotton candy. The post served hot dogs to 120 attendees.

Post Commander Brian Monk shared, “We’re happy with the results. We had about 35-40 kids here. They got to come out, have fun, play in the water, jump in the bounce house and play some cornhole. They get to run around before their first full week of school next week. The kids get to hang out and have fun with each other while the parents have the chance to look at all that we do at the veterans auxiliary. We’re here not just for us veterans but for the whole community, too. That’s the big thing. We’re here for the entire community.”

Every Tuesday at 11 a.m., the post serves up hot lunch for the community for $6 per plate. Everyone is invited to either sit down and break bread together or get their plates to go. Meatloaf and pork chops are coming up later in the month.

Bingo is held on most Friday nights at 5, so get your daubers ready!

This Saturday evening will see a social night with an invitation going out to everyone near and far. The night begins at 7, with Horizon providing live music.

VFW Post 2214 is one of almost 6,000 worldwide posts, and the veterans service nonprofit organization has more than 1.5 million members of its posts and auxiliaries. It seeks to provide services to veterans, legislative advocacy and community service work.

The VFW post is located at 112 Veterans Dr. SW in Cullman. More information is available at www.facebook.com/cullmanVFWPost.
