CULLMAN, Ala. – With thousands descending on Cullman this weekend for the Rock the South music festival, Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry said his department’s primary focus will be safety and security.
“As with any event that the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office works, our first priority is to keep the community safe, and Rock the South is no different,” Gentry said.
The sheriff said deputies will be out in full force this weekend doing everything possible to ensure the safety of visitors and residents.
“We encourage everyone to know your travel routes, parking areas and what can and cannot be brought into the venue,” Gentry said. “We want everyone to have a fun and safe weekend.”
Cullman Assistant Police Chief David Nassetta said going into the first day of Rock the South, the Cullman Police Department’s primary concerns are traffic and heat.
“While everyone going to the event should expect delays from traffic, the southwest part of the city may also be impacted, so citizens should plan accordingly,” Nassetta said. “As far as the weather goes, last year there were a significant number of heat-related incidents before and during the early part of the concert. We were fortunate in getting rain, which helped to cool things off, but did cause other problems. This year doesn’t look like we can expect any relief from the heat, so it is critical that event attendees stay hydrated. Alcohol is not hydration, and this should be factored into how they balance their liquid intake.”
