Local back-to-school events

CULLMAN, Ala. – Each year, area schools and organizations host back-to-school events to celebrate kids returning to school and to ready any supplies families may need. Some schools and organizations, including Good Hope, Parkside and St. Andrew’s United Methodist, have already hosted events, but there are many scheduled this month around the county.

Vinemont Schools Freedom Fest – Aug. 5, 5-8 p.m. on school grounds

The event will include free food, school supplies, inflatables, face painting, live music and a car show. The cruise-in will be in the middle school parking lot. Attendants can meet the teachers, band, football players and cheerleaders.

Holly Pond Schools Back-to-School Bash – POSTPONED

The Holly Pond Back-to-School Bash at Governor’s Park has been postponed. Holly Pond High School released the statement: “Due to the untimely death of one of our students and his sibling, the Back to School Bash scheduled for August 6 at the park has been POSTPONED. We ask that you continue to pray for the family during this time. A rescheduled date will be announced at a later time.”

Food Box and School Supplies Giveaway – Aug. 6, 9 a.m.-noon at The Link of Cullman County

Those in need can go by The Link of Cullman County’s drive-through (708 Ninth St. SE in Cullman) for food and school supplies. Five-hundred food boxes will be given away, and the school supplies will be available by request while supplies last.

West Point Back-to-School Bash – Aug. 6, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. at the West Point Youth Baseball and Softball Fields

Diana Wilhite from West Point Family Medical Practice and Jacqueline Flynt Keller from Riderz are giving away school supplies for 200 students. The event will feature water slides, Tracy’s Balloons, a visit from Snead’s Farmhouse and the West Point Volunteer Fire Department. Live music will be performed by Zach Weissen and Rob and The Red Beards. 3990 County Road 1141, Vinemont

Veterans of Foreign Wars Back-to-School Bash – Aug. 13, noon at the Cullman VFW

This bash will have a bouncy house, snow cones, cotton candy, free hot dogs and much more! Donations are welcome. 112 Veterans Drive SW, Cullman

Back-to-School Bash – Aug. 25, 6-9 p.m. at J&S Karaoke

This event is hosted by local bands Hassleinone, Brother Goode and Jesse Priest Music. They will be accepting payment for entertainment in the form of school supplies to give as donations to in-need families. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 6.
