Robert Duane Phillips, 93, of Warrior, Alabama, passed away on July 29, 2022. He was born July 1, 1929, in Cullman County, Alabama, to Lonnie Robert and Corena Wisner Phillips.

Duane attended Holly Pond School. He was then drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Mr. Phillips had an amazing sense of humor and he brought joy to those who knew him. After many years in the welding and consulting industry, Mr. Phillips began his own consulting company with his son and grandson. He was still working in the industry until his health declined a few months ago. Duane enjoyed farming, gardening, and flowers. His lake property flowerbeds were so impressive that boaters made a special trip up the lake to view them. Mr. Phillips enjoyed ballroom dancing and was a member of the Birmingham Fraternal Council’s Merry Makers Dance Group. He served as a deacon at his church, Duck Creek Missionary Baptist Church. But more than anything, Duane loved and cherished his family. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he fought through his illness to make certain he saw his youngest great-grandchild born. Mr. Phillips was an amazing man, and he leaves behind a beautiful legacy of hard work, faith, and love. He will be missed greatly.

Mr. Phillips is preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Paula Joy Fields; brothers: Dueal Phillips, Devoy Phillips; sisters: Euvon Watkins, and Shirley Dean.

Survivors include his wife: Sara Phillips; son: John (Sandy) Phillips; brother: James Donald Phillips; sister: Virginia “Ginny” Hale; grandchildren: Gary Shane Fields, Shannon Joy Fields; and great-grandchildren: Garrett Shane Fields, Sara Jewel Fields, and Cahaba Duane Fields.

Funeral services for Mr. Phillips are Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Duck Creek Missionary Baptist Church, David Wisner officiating. Services will begin at 2 p.m., with an hour of visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery where Jay Phillips, Darin Phillips, Aaron Pica, Dan Hutchens, Eli Whitley, David Peigler, and Logan Peigler will serve as pallbearers.
