WEST POINT, Ala. – West Point Plaza welcomed new businesses with a grand opening Saturday. The event was organized by MnR Event & Party Rentals, which owns a storefront in the plaza, to welcome its neighbors to the community and invite others out to see what the businesses have to offer.

A bounce house and a table for painting were set up for the kids, and local competition team Leela Q BBQ was on site with its award-winning barbeque taking donations to raise funds to attend the World Food Championship in Dallas, Texas.

The new businesses in the plaza include West Point Nutrition and Timeless Formals, which have been open for a couple of months in their new locations.

Jose Mendez, owner of West Point Nutrition, stated, “I have met tons of new people and they’re all so nice, and all the businesses have been coming in and stopping by and trying different things that we’ve got.”

West Point Nutrition sells flavored teas that can include either collagen or protein, meal replacement shakes, coffees and more. For more information visit www.facebook.com/westpointnutrition

Timeless Formals, opened in March of 2021, was previously located near West Elementary School in Cullman. Lonna Hembree opened the store in its new location in May. She said she started out with a few dresses and built up her inventory to more than 300. Hembree will be returning to her previous location soon, as she received an offer from Michael and Mandi Hall of West Point to buy the West Point Plaza shop. The West Point storefront will still be called Timeless Formals.

The Halls plan to sell formal pageant wear like Hembree, but said they will be including bridesmaid and wedding dresses and offer tuxedo rentals. Hembree’s operation is a seasonal formal wear business, while the Halls said they will be open year-round.

“They’ll be the only other place in Cullman that has tuxedo rentals that I know of besides Mr. Hicks (Mens Wear in Cullman),” said Hembree.

MnR Event & Party Rentals also opened just a couple months ago in its new storefront at the plaza. Morgan Randolph and her mother Melondie Mobley run the business together. They offer party decorations, inflatables, waterslides, wedding décor, tables, chairs and tents, etc.

“We just got the storefront pretty much to get our name out there, but most of it is online- everybody just calls and orders,” said Randolph, “but it’s nice to have a storefront so everyone can come in and see what they’re getting.”

Randolph said her family decided to get into the business to build something of its own. “My parents invested so it can pass down to the kids and grandkids,” she said.

She said she has been surprised by the demand in Cullman for the services she provides. “The good thing is I’ve even had venues like The Patio at Smith Lake has called wanting a tent, so we’ve gotten to build relationships with other venues.”
