BREMEN, Ala. — The summer play-day games for local basketball teams have come to an end and the Cold Springs Lady Eagles finished off their summer schedule with a 10-2 record. Junior Ella Bruer was happy to see the progress she and her team made this summer and she’s looking forward to seeing what they can when the season tips off in the fall.

“I personally think the team has doing amazing this summer. We’ve worked together to push ourselves to be better and it really paid off this summer,” Bruer said. “We just have to keep up the good work.”

Cold Springs added a new player to the team this offseason in junior Maci Brown and Bruer can already see that she’ll help out the Lady Eagles in many different ways.

“Maci has helped us so much,” Bruer said. “She has helped us defensively and offensively. She is a very good ball handler and knows how to create shots for herself. She brings the ball down the floor and sees the court very well. Maci has always been a very good defensive player. She’s very good at knowing when to help off and it helps having her on the floor with us. We all love having Maci and are very excited for the season to start.”

Ella started playing for Head Coach Tammy West when she was a freshman and has learned so much from the Cold Springs coaching great.

“It’s been amazing playing for coach West! She’s an amazing coach and has taught me so many things. I’m very grateful to be able to play for her,” Bruer said. “Coach West has taught me so much on and off the court. I have learned that we have to play together to be a good team. She has taught me to be respectful to one another as well as our opponents and to be a leader on and off the court. She has also taught me that to be a good player, you have to work on your own time. We have to be willing to take the time out of our day to put in the work to be a great player.”

Ella has been continuing to improve her game day by day and has very high expectations for this upcoming season. Almost the entire roster will be back, and the added experience should help the team as they pursue another postseason run.

“I’ve been working a bit on everything this summer: ball handling, getting my shot off faster, and to be better defensively,” Bruer said. “I have very high expectations for us this season. I expect for us to keep working hard for it to pay off during the season. I expect us to put the work in to be able to make it to Birmingham this season! I think that it will help a lot this season. We’ve all had the experience of varsity ball from last season, so we will know what to expect this year.”
