ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The Cullman Tribune won big at the annual Alabama Press Association Awards last week in Orange Beach, garnering over 20 awards in its Category B class.
The paper swept two categories including Best Feature Photo and Best Online Breaking News Coverage.
Publisher Noah Galilee shares what this year’s awards mean to him and his team at The Tribune, “The awards, this year judged by the Illinois Press Association, help to show where we are improving or lacking as seen by a group of our peers. For the newspaper, it’s validation that the direction which we are heading is ahead of the curve and shows we need to keep pushing the limits.”
With many newspapers in the APA’s Category B, The Tribune faced stiff competition from quality news outlets both locally and throughout the state. That, in part, is what makes the publisher proud of two distinct awards.
“When you’re in a crowded division, such as the APA’s Category B, it’s an honor to place in any of the categories. I will say though, it feels good to see group awards such as placing third in General Excellence and receiving the award of Most Improved because it means we are all working well as a group.
“There were so many different categories this year, I’m just proud of the entire overall achievements. We received awards in many diverse groups and that shows why we placed in General Excellence and overall in Most Improved for Category B.”
Upon the formation of CullmanSense just over a decade ago, Galilee and Associate Publisher Dustin Isom knew they were just getting started and had their eyes set on the future.
“We knew that the goal was to merge CullmanSense with The Cullman Tribune. We could see how letting the two complement one another would be advantageous.
“Now, we have added a quarterly magazine, ‘Community Matters’, and look forward to growing the magazine side of The Tribune.”
Galilee is quick to express his gratitude for his team at the Tribune.
“I’m proud of the reporters, marketing representatives and others within The Tribune who continually adapt to changes and move forward. Our team’s hard work has been rewarded.”
