CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Area Rural Transportation Service (CARTS) has almost 10 driver vacancies which need to be filled immediately. The driver shortage has impacted the availability of routes for the transportation service and its clients, usually the elderly or those with disabilities.

The part-time driver position requires a commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger endorsement, making the role a good fit for retired over-the-road truckers or those wishing to stay closer to home instead of driving the long hauls.

From providing transportation to regularly scheduled shopping routes or doctor’s visits, CARTS provides an invaluable service to many throughout Cullman County who would potentially be homebound without them.

Drivers perform both pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, operate the vehicles along the route and follow the guidelines for assisting passengers.

The position requires a preemployment drug test and additional random drug tests throughout the tenure in the position. The education requirement for drivers includes a high school diploma or the equivalent.

Applications are available online at http://www.co.cullman.al.us/ or at the Cullman County Courthouse at 500 2nd Ave SW in the personnel office in Room 109.

Completed applications can be returned:

  • In person: Cullman County Courthouse, address above
