CULLMAN – At the regularly scheduled Cullman County Commission meeting on June 28, 2016, commissioners considered a request from County Attorney Chad Floyd to move forward with negotiations between the commission and the Cullman County Rescue Squad.
Cullman County Commission Chairman Kenneth Walker signed a second letter dated April 29, 2016, requesting that the rescue squad vacate the County’s facilities located at 1520 Sportsman Lake Road NW, Cullman, Alabama 35055, on or before June 30, 2016. A meeting was held between Chairman Kenneth Walker and Rebecca Tanksley, captain of the Cullman County Rescue Squad, on June 7, 2016. During that meeting, Tanksley indicated that if the commission would allow the Rescue Squad additional time, she felt certain they could be off of the County’s property by July 11, 2016.
During yesterday’s commission meeting, Floyd asked that the rescue squad be given until July 11, 2016, to vacate the property. Further, Floyd asked for the authority to proceed with legal action against the Cullman County Rescue Squad should they fail to vacate the premises by July 11, 2016.
“The rescue squad has been a valuable member of the Cullman County community for many years, and the commission thanks them for their service during that time. Due to events that were beyond the control of the current leadership within the rescue squad, the County and the rescue squad need to sever all ties,” said Walker. “During yesterday’s meeting, Attorney Chad Floyd asked that the rescue squad be given until July 11, 2016, to vacate the premises. The commission gave Attorney Floyd the authority to inspect the premises on the morning of July 11, 2016, and to proceed with legal action should the rescue squad still be on site. It is my sincere hope that we can wad this suit up and throw it in the trash on the morning of July 11, 2016.”
