MONTGOMERY, Ala— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $300,000 grant to help provide new jobs in the town of South Vinemont while also improving traffic safety.
The Community Development Block Grant funds will be used to construct a northbound turning lane off High School Road and onto U.S. Highway 31. The lane will help facilitate the construction of a Jack’s Family Restaurant near that intersection. Jack’s will hire 40 employees.
“The Community Development Block Grant program assists governments with funding for projects that otherwise might not be feasible,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am pleased to award this grant for these improvements to South Vinemont.”
The turning lane is expected to help ease school and other traffic turning from High School Road onto U.S. Highway 31.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“ADECA is glad to join with Gov. Ivey in this project that will bring additional commerce and jobs to the town of South Vinemont,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “We look forward to assisting in this project and seeing positive results from it.”
Gov. Ivey notified Mayor Radginal Dodson that the grant had been approved. The town is supplying a local match of $6,000.
ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
