HANCEVILLE – Wallace State softball infielder Taylor Beshears, who set new single-season school records as a freshman, was recognized recently as a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 3rd-team All-American.

Beashers, a Hewitt-Trussville graduate, hit a team-leading .446 with 13 homers and a school-record 84 RBIs as Wallace State finished with a 49-22 record and won its 10th conference title.

Beshears’ 33 doubles were also a single-season school record and she finished with 104 hits, putting her tied for second in school history with Rachel Baucom (2007). Beshears, the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) North Division Player of the Year and ACCC All-Tournament selection, also collected team-highs in triples (8) and runs scored (66) during her stellar campaign.

Beshears was one of four Wallace State players to hit 10 or more homers in 2016. Molli Garcia had a team-leading 16, Katie Parr had 14, Beshears had 13 and Shelby Brown 12.  The Lady Lions cranked 75 homers as a club and hit .318 collectively.

Wallace State also captured its 11th consecutive ACCC North Division title in 2016 and made its 10th NJCAA Division I national tournament appearance.

Beshears’ selection as a NJCAA All-American marks the fifth consecutive season a Lady Lion has earned 3rd-team honors or better. Last season, Rachel Ragland became the sixth player since 2009 to earn 1st-team recognition.
