CULLMAN – There are concession stands, and there are local franchises, but there are only two truly hometown food spots at this year’s Rock the South music festival: Luna’s BBQ from Hanceville and The Cotton Gin from Good Hope.
“We aren’t directly in town in Cullman, we are a little out of the way in Good Hope, so I think it is good that we’re here. People can find out about us, you know, know that we are around,” said Brittney, kitchen manager at The Cotton Gin.
The Cotton Gin is this year’s sponsor of Rock the South’s notorious swimming pool, and offers not only a local presence, but also the only seafood option for those at the festival who are more aquatically inclined in their culinary endeavors.
While The Cotton Gin is making its Rock the South debut this year, the annual local favorite, Luna’s, is continuing its tradition as a mainstay at the event.
“People come here and say, ‘We can’t wait to see you next year,’” said Jimmy, the owner of Luna’s BBQ. “We consider it an honor to be invited back.”
He also had a bit to say about franchise vendors at Rock the South posing as local businesses.
“Franchises can say they’re local, but hey, the money leaves Cullman.”
