CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Middle School Miss Pioneer Pageant will be held tomorrow, January 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the Cullman High School Auditorium. This pageant is being held as a fundraiser for Cullman Middle School and High School special education classes to fund life skills trips.
Special Education teacher Kristen Tanner said, “Myself and Mrs. Stacie Owen both tech students with special needs. We have the opportunity to prepare our students for life after high school through community experiences. In 2020 we were afforded the opportunity to take our students to Disney World where they learned how the work in their hospitality department and see firsthand how their employment process works. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students. Many may have never had the opportunity to experience all that Disney had to offer, let alone learn how to work for this amazing company.”
She continued, “Our students and staff worked tirelessly to fundraise for this trip and fortunately raised enough where no student, parent or teacher had to pay a dime to attend. For many, it was their first time to fly in a plane or ride a roller coaster. We saw students overcome fears and learn many skills that would lead to increased independence. This year, we have the opportunity to take our students to Gatlinburg to learn vital life skills outside of the classroom. All of the proceeds from this pageant will go directly to our students’ trip.
The Miss Pioneer pageant is one of our biggest fundraisers. The contestants are excited to be competing for the title of Miss Pioneer, but I think they’re more excited to be helping their classmates with special needs.”
Admission is $5.00 at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
