Mr. Carpenter passed away December 22, 2021 at his residence.  He was born August 5, 1935 to Neal L. and Birtie Dell Parker Carpenter.  Robert Carpenter was a family man, who adored his wife, Mittie, doted on his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and taught them all the importance of spending time together and supporting one another.

He and Mittie were married for 66 years, and they were truly best friends, even though Robert pestered her from time to time and she swatted him with a fly swat when he needed it.  Their love stood the test of time and set an example to us all. They were the happiest when they were together, and they loved having the whole family under one roof. Their favorite place to travel was to the Great Smoky Mountains, but Robert loved going anywhere with his family, and of course to places with good food.

He loved his church, and he served as a deacon at Jones Chapel First Baptist for over 50 years.   You will not meet a man with a bigger servant’s heart or a man more dedicated to his church, than Robert Carpenter.  Robert also had many friends, and he loved each one.  One of his favorite things to do was going to Jack’s (The Office) and eating breakfast and talking to them.  Robert also loved sports.  In fact, he played football in high-school and his parents never even knew about it.  Whether it was softball, golf, bowling or basketball, he perfected whatever he did.  Simply, you don’t play if you can’t be the best. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his family, and he might have said, “Runner-up is just first loser,” teaching the whole family the importance of working hard at whatever you choose to do. He served his country, loved Jesus, lived the best life and he will be greatly missed, but Robert Carpenter is now walking the streets of gold and awaiting his family to meet him there.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Melissa Kim Carpenter; brother: Earl Carpenter and sister: Pauline Watson.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years: Mittie Dean Brown Carpenter; son: Scott (Benita) Carpenter; daughters: Melanie (Tim) Box and Amy Carpenter; grandchildren: Tiffany (Joey) Denson, Jared (Mandy) Box, Chase Carpenter, Taylor (Jared) Folks and Meagan (Matthew) Cagle; great-grandchildren: Myles and Miller Denson, Elsi, Eva, Rett and Ford Folks, Grayson, Gunner and Gaines Cagle, Reid and RyleeKate Box; family and friends.
