Good Hope’s City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting at Good Hope City Hall Monday night and tackled a new list of agenda items after approving the minutes and finances of last month’s meeting. One of the first things Mayor Jerry Bartlett and the Council wanted to address was Nexan Building Products donating items for Christmas Love for the 13th consecutive year. The Council passed Resolution No. 028-2021 to recognize Nexan for their donations over the years,

“Whereas the City of Good Hope has been participating in Christmas Love for 13 years; and whereas, Nexan Building Products, Inc. has been generously giving to Christmas Love and providing for families in need of extra support and care during the Christmas Holidays for 12 years; and whereas most of the time they have been generously shopped for approximately 9 children each year to provide warm clothing and pajamas and toys, therefore providing for at least 108 children in the past 12 years. Now therefore, be it resolved by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Good Hope, Alabama as follows: Would like to recognize and show our appreciation for the generosity of Nexan Building Products, Inc. and all of their employees. Thank you so much for making such a huge impact in Good Hope.”

After hearing reports from council members, the Council moved on to a new set of Ordinances and Resolutions.

First, the Council had the second reading or Ordinance No. 026-2021. The Ordinance was written to amend Ordinance No. 015-2020 to add a standing committee called Community and Economic Development Committee. The ordinance reads,

“As the result of recent rapid growth experienced by the City of Good Hope, it would be beneficial to form a standing committee to respond to inquiries from potential industrial, retail and residential developers. Therefore, a standing committee is hereby created to be known as the City of Good Hope Community and Economic Development Committee. The committee shall be comprised of the mayor, the council members and the city planner and shall meet as needed to make recommendations to the city council.”

Next up were three Resolutions written to recognize three of Good Hope High School’s athletic teams that have already put together outstanding seasons.

Resolution No. 029-2021: “Whereas, the 2021 Good Hope High School Cheerleading Team recently completed an outstanding season, and whereas, the cheerleading team earned third place in the Class 4A State competition; and now therefore, be it resolved by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Good Hope, Alabama as follows: The City of Good Hope, Alabama recognizes the Good Hope Cheerleading Team for their exceptional athletic ability and accomplishments in the 2021 season.”

Resolution No. 031-2021: “Whereas, the 2021 Good Hope High School Volleyball Team recently completed an outstanding season, and whereas, the volleyball team led by Coach Natasha Holder, won the Cullman County Tournament, the area and for the first time in nine years made it to the AHSAA Class 4A State Elite 8; Now therefore, be it resolved by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Good Hope, Alabama as follows: The City of Good Hope, Alabama recognizes the Good Hope Volleyball Team for their exceptional athletic ability and accomplishments in the 2021 season.”

The last Resolution of the night was to award a road construction contract to Carcel and G Construction, LLC.

Resolution No. 032-2021: “Whereas, the City of Good Hope has received a Community Development Block Grant to implement a road improvements project that will assist multiple businesses and help create jobs for predominantly low and moderate income persons; and therefore, in accordance with CDBG regulations, the City of Good Hope has solicited and received bids from qualified companies to complete the improvements in accordance with the approved plans and specifications; Now, therefore, be it resolved that the City of Good Hope has evaluated the bids received and has determined that Carcel and G Construction, LLC. is the low bidder; and that, the City of Good Hope has authorized Mayor Jerry Bartlett to enter into a contract with Carcel and G Construction, LLC. in the amount of $485,597.86 to complete all construction activities associated with the above referenced CDBG project.”
