CULLMAN, Ala. – The 2021 Cullman County Sheriff’s Office Rodeo Sponsorship Dinner took place Tuesday night at Brick Haven Venue. This dinner honors the sponsors of the Sheriff’s Office Jimmy Arrington Memorial Rodeo. Deputy Chad Whaley welcomed the sponsors, saying, “I’m so proud to be able to welcome everybody to this sponsorship dinner. We are very blessed to live here in Cullman County. The support that we get from the community is unmatched and we at the sheriff’s office, we recognize how fortunate we are, not just for the rodeo, but year-round.”

Sheriff Matt Gentry remarked how excited he was for the rodeo, “What everybody doesn’t realize, and anybody who has been a part of this, you know the rodeo is the heartbeat of the Sheriff’s Office. What we get to see and do is amazing. And the reason we get to do that is because of all of you in this room.”

He continued, “Last year we had to do our rodeo virtual, and not only did we do it virtual, all of the sponsors knew that this would not happen last year. The rodeo in person would not happen and you still gave, and you still supported us which is unbelievable. We got to do it virtual last year for all of the children Thursday. So, you had 1400 special needs children that still got to participate in the rodeo, which is unbelievable when you see the pictures and smiles and see what happens with those kids.”

Last year’s virtual rodeo was broadcast to the whole community, with 27,000 viewers. The rodeo will be virtual again this year and will be broadcast on local media and Charter cable with MyCullman television.

The Sheriff thanked the Brandin’ Iron Steakhouse and Brick Haven for hosting the dinner.

The silent auction hosted by Adam Gibbs featured two adult his and hers Schwinn Bicycles donated by Ricky Jones; a Winchester Upright gun safe donated by Tractor Supply; a smooth leather recliner donated by Cullman Furniture Market; an Expert Grill donated by Walmart; a Yamaha Guitar and case plus one year of lessons donated by Guitar and More; a Husqvarna leaf blower donated by Basch Brothers, among other items.

The Jimmy Arrington Memorial Sheriff’s Rodeo will be December 10 and 11 at the Cullman County Agriculture and Trade Center.

According to Sheriff Matt Gentry, the Rodeo is dedicated to the memory of former Cullman County Deputy Lt. Jimmy Arrington who helped start this annual event.

“This rodeo provides great family entertainment for all those who come and watch the rodeo events and is a great local, community event,” Gentry said. “We work hard starting in March of each year to prepare for the December Sheriff’s rodeo.”

Some of the events featured at the rodeo are Bareback Riding, Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, face painting, a kid’s scramble and door prizes.

Admission at the door for Friday and Saturday nights will be $10 for adults and $8 for children.
