CULLMAN, Ala. – This 2021 holiday season saw a return to tradition Friday evening when Cullman celebrated its annual Christmas in Cullman parade and tree lighting. The parade took place down 1st Avenue, running from Busy Bee Café, through the Warehouse District and concluding at Depot Park, where the town Christmas tree sat with its silhouette illuminated by countless lights, waiting patiently to be brought to life.
Cullman City Parks and Recreation Recreational Development Director Christy Turner previously shared with The Tribune on the highly anticipated event, “The parade is always a fun event and is the perfect way to bring everyone together for the Christmas tree lighting.”
While Turner shared that the event had been given a rainout date of December 4 just in case of weather, the evening was a hit as the citizens of the Cullman community flocked to 1st Ave for a touch of holiday cheer.
“I am proud that we are able to have this event again this year. It is a wonderful event that brings the people of Cullman together and highlights our beautiful historic downtown area. I appreciate all of the people who work so hard to make this event better every year!”, said Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs.
Meaghan Dewberry attended Christmas in Cullman with her family for the very first time and gladly shared her thoughts on the celebration, saying, “This is our first year. We live in Hayden, but we have never been to the parade here in Cullman before. It has been great. We went walking down the street and stopped at the popcorn place, Kernel Kullman, and we have definitely enjoyed that.”
Cullman local Haley Young also excitedly shared, “Christmas in Cullman is hands down the best time of the year. The lights go up on Main Avenue and all across Cullman. Once the whole town is decorated, it truly starts to feel like Christmas and definitely gets me in the holiday mood.”
“The parade and tree lighting have been awesome. Packed out streets, lights everywhere, candy all in the streets, it has been amazing. I am definitely down for what events like this bring to Cullman. The sense of community is great,” said Cullman local Eli Russel as faux snow blanketed the air, much to the surrounding children’s delight.
The parade and tree lighting are some of the most long-standing seasonal traditions, alongside school plays, church productions and decorations throughout the city. It really can only mean one thing: the holidays have returned to Cullman.
