GOOD HOPE – A regular Good Hope City Council meeting was held on Monday night, and the stars of the show were the members of the Good Hope High School fishing team.
The council passed a resolution recognizing the team’s accomplishments during the 2015-2016 school year, including:
- 2016 Cullman Alabama High School Bass Fishing Classic- Team Champions
- 1st place boat – Will Dickerson/Christian Simmons
- 2nd place boat – Charlie Harbison/Cole McDonald
- 3rd place boat – Landon Graham/Colton Williams
- 2016 Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association (ASABFA) Smith Lake Tournament
- 2016 B.A.S.S. Open-Lake Guntersville
- 4th – Cole MacDonald/Kyle Calvert
- 15th – Blake Barrett/Tucker Putman
(These individuals qualified for State Championship and National Championship)
- 2016 ASABFA Lake Martin- Second Place Team
- 10th place boat – Landon Graham/Colton Williams
- 14th place boat – James Wright/Blake Barrett

“I am very proud of these boys and girls,” said GHS Fishing Coach Jeff Sandlin. “They competed well this year, learned from their mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes and we saw a few this year that we learned from. Hopefully we will continue to have success from here on.
“I would like to thank the parents. Without the parents’ support we wouldn’t even be here. It has to do with the parents supporting the kids and buying what they need and having fundraisers, which is very important. I would like to ask you (Mayor Bartlett) and the council if you could help us by donating some money to us.”
Bartlett presented a check for $250 to the GHS fishing team.
Following the team’s recognition, committee reports were given.
Councilman John Harris reported that the freezer in the concession stand at the ball field is not working. All meat (hamburgers and hotdogs) is currently in the freezer downstairs in City Hall.
Councilwoman Susan Eller reported, “There was one small issue at the treatment plant. On May 18 they had an accident involving slush on the drain bed. The bed ran over for a short period of time.”
Deputy Chad Chapman reported a recent increase in drug activity in the area.
In resolutions, ordinances, orders and other business, the following was discussed.
Ordinance No. 011-2016 – No Overnight Parking in Park – was approved. “It shall be unlawful for any person to park or leave, or cause to be parked or left, any motor vehicle overnight at Hathcock Park for any period of time in excess of eight consecutive hours.”
Ordinance No. 012-2016 – Amendment to Zoning Ordinance to Provide Curb-Side Selling Under a Special Exceptions Use – was approved. “Section 2. The paragraph entitled PROHIBITED USES: in Section 70.07 B-2 General Business District of said Zoning Ordinance is hereby amended by adding item A. Curb Side Selling, currently under Prohibited uses, to item #8, under the SPECIAL EXCEPTIONS USE to make it item #8. Curb-Side Selling.”
A capitalization amount of $5,000 for audit purposes was approved.
Ambassador Book renewal for 2017 and 2018 for books to go to the first and fourth grades was approved The cost for the books is around $950 and is due in January.
A budget request for an additional $5,000 was approved to purchase a vehicle.
The Good Hope City Council meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Good Hope City Hall. The public is welcome to attend.
