WEST POINT, Ala. – At the West Point Town Council’s meeting Monday evening, their application for a grant to pave county road 1246 was not approved; however, they did pass a resolution to apply for a grant to be used on county road 1141, which is more heavily traveled. The council hopes to be able to have county road 1246 paved in the spring.

The council passed a resolution to approve the use of American Rescue Act funds on a ditch flume repair on county road 1141. The council also passed a resolution to use the American Rescue Act funds on this year’s community meal.

Councilman Timmy Smith proposed the purchase of new Christmas lights once the season ends when lights are on sale to make the lights more uniform for the 2022 holidays. The council agreed and planned to discuss the matter further.

In other news, the Thanksgiving meal at first Baptist Church has been changed to a holiday meal set for December 11.

The West Point Town Council meets on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at West Point Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
