ROGERSVILLE, Ala. — For the second year in a row, the Vinemont Eagles made it to the AHSAA state playoffs. Vinemont traveled to Rogersville to battle the Lauderdale County Tigers Friday night and the scoreboard was not indicative of how closely matched the teams were, but the Tigers were able to pick up a 28-6 win over the Eagles.
Lauderdale County got the ball to begin the game, after a couple of first downs Vinemont forced a fourth down but was unable to get the stop, three plays later the Tigers found the endzone to go up 7-0 with 7:53 remaining in the opening quarter. Vinemont got the ball for their first possession and marched right down the field but a delay of game inside the 5-yard line killed the drive and the Eagles came away empty.
Lauderdale County drove down the field and with 5:12 remaining in the opening half tacked on a touchdown to go up 14-0. The Eagles were unable to convert on fourth down on their next possession, but the Eagle defense stepped up to force a fourth and long but gave up the touchdown to give the Tigers a 21-0 halftime lead.
Vinemont found the endzone late in the third quarter when Kayden Henderson plunged into the endzone from 2 yards out to cut the led to 21-6. On the ensuing possession, Lauderdale County put together an eight-minute drive, capped off with the final touchdown of the night for both teams to move in front 28-6 and secure a first round win over the Eagles.
Vinemont’s season comes to an end at 5-6 with the loss.
