CULLMAN, Ala. – The final week of this year’s regular season is upon, and some local squads are preparing for their final games of the year Friday night. Cullman, Addison and Good Hope wrapped up their regular seasons last week but everyone else still has at least one more game to play. Arab, Fairview, Vinemont and Meek have a playoff game coming up in a couple weeks to prepare for, but West Point, Holly Pond, Hanceville and Cold Springs will play their final games of the season this week. The Warriors will travel to take on Curry Thursday night, Holly Pond and Vinemont will host Fairview and Cold Springs respectively for a pair of county rivalry games, Arab will travel to Boaz, Hanceville will host Elkmont and Meek returns home to face Sumiton Christian.

West Point (5-4) at Curry (0-9) (Thursday)

The Warriors will play their final regular season game a little early this week when they head to Curry Thursday night. The Yellow Jackets are still looking for their first win of the year and have struggled on both sides of the ball. Opponents are scoring nearly 45 points per game against Curry this season and the Jackets are only putting up 7 points per game on the offensive side. West Point has had its own struggles pointing points on the board this season but will have a great chance to find the end zone at Curry this week. This season hasn’t always gone according to plan for the Warriors but if they can put together a solid performance Thursday night, they’ll be in great shape to wrap up the season with a win.

Arab (7-2) at Boaz (6-3)

The Arabian Knights posted a 27-0 shutout win over Springville last week and now they’ll hit the road to finish the regular season at Boaz. Arab punched its ticket to the state playoffs a couple of weeks ago, but the Knights would love to continue building on their momentum with a big road win Friday night. The Pirates dropped their last game to Guntersville 45-17 but had last week off to rest up and prepare for their matchup with Arab. Boaz is scoring 34 points per game this season, but the Knights have been stellar on the defensive side of the ball all year, allowing just 9.8 points per game. If the Knights can continue to be stingy on defense and explosive on offense, they’ll have an opportunity to wrap up the regular season with another win over a good team.

Holly Pond (3-6) v. Fairview (8-1)

The Aggies and Broncos are set to renew their county rivalry in Holly Pond Friday night. The Aggies will be hosting the first round of the state playoffs at Dafford Smith Stadium next week but before they look ahead to that game they’ll have to get past the Broncos, and they would love nothing more than to spoil Fairview’s regular season finale. However, it’ll take a special performance from Holly Pond to pull off the upset. The Aggies’ high-powered offense is scoring over 44 points per game this season and the Broncos have been inconsistent on the defensive side of the ball so it could be a tough matchup for them at home Friday night. Fairview has won three straight over Holly Pond and if the Aggies can continue to light up the scoreboard, they’ll have a chance to make it four in a row this week.

Hanceville (2-7) v. Elkmont (0-9)

The Bulldogs will return to Ray Talley Stadium for their season finale against Elkmont this week and they plan on capping things off with a win. Hanceville has dropped four straight coming into this matchup, but the Red Devils are still looking for its first win of the year. Opponents are scoring more than 46 points per game against Elkmont this season so the Bulldogs should be able to move the ball offensively. The Red Devils have struggled on the offensive side of the ball this year as well so this week’s matchup should be a favorable one for Hanceville. If the Bulldogs can put together a solid plan and execute this week, they’ll have a great chance to add another game to the win column before the end of the season.

Vinemont (4-5) v. Cold Springs (0-9)

Both teams of Eagles are set to meet in Vinemont Friday night and Cold Springs would love to cap off the season with a massive win over its county rival. Vinemont secured a playoff spot with its 41-6 win over Holly Pond last week, but it has one more county rival to get through before the postseason begins. Cold Springs has struggled on both sides of the ball this season but anything can happen in a rivalry game so Vinemont will need to prepare for a battle this week. Both teams have had a hard time keeping opponents out of the end zone, but Vinemont has shown that it can keep pace in a shootout this season. Cold Springs will have to find some big plays on the offensive side and create some turnovers on the defensive side but if they can do that, they’ll have a chance to knock off Vinemont in the regular season finale.

Meek (6-3) v. Sumiton Christian (7-2)

The Tigers handled Berry at home 28-7 last week and they’ll be back on their home field Friday night when Sumiton Christian comes to town. The Eagles are coming off a 49-21 loss to Valley Head last week but have been dominant throughout most of the regular season, allowing just 12 points per game. Meek has been posting around 30 points per game this season so something will have to give when those two units are on the field. Both these teams are headed to the state playoffs in a couple of weeks, but both would love to build some momentum going into the postseason with a win in the regular season finale Friday night.
