PREP FOOTBALL: Vinemont races past Holly Pond 41-6

VINEMONT, Ala. — The Vinemont Eagles hosted their cross country rivals the Holly Pond Broncos in their region finale Friday night and the Eagles came away with a big 41-6 victory on their home field.

Vinemont got started quickly as the Broncos got the ball to start the game, but the Eagles forced a three and out and three plays later Colby Miller found the endzone from 17 yards out to put the Eagles ahead 8-0 with 9:01 remaining in the opening quarter.

Holly Pond picked up two first downs, but the Eagles put a stop to the drive when Isaac Moody intercepted the ball, four plays later Jarrett Friedrich scored from 6 yards to put the Eagles up 15-0 with 3:45 remaining in the opening quarter. Holly Ponds Andy Light returned the ensuing kick-off all the way to cut the led to 15-6 with 3:32 remaining in the opening quarter. Vinemont answered right back when three plays later Colby Miller found Isaac Moody for a 46-yard touchdown to push the led to 22-6 late in the first quarter.

After forcing a punt, the Eagles got the ball back, three plays later Miller found the endzone from 47 yards out to give the Eagles a 28-6 lead with 8:44 left before halftime. Holly Ponds next possession was cut short when Dawson Wilhite intercepted the ball just three plays into the Broncos drive.

Vinemont added another touchdown with 4:51 remaining in the opening half when Kayden Henderson scored from 10 yards out. Vinemont received the second half kick-off and quickly found the endzone when Kayden Henderson scored from 12 yards out with 10:37 remaining in the third quarter putting the Eagles up 41-6. Neither team was able to find the end zone the rest of the night and Vinemont held on to defeat Holly Pond 41-6.

The Eagles improve to 4-5 with the win and secure a spot in the postseason. Vinemont will be back home next week to take on Cold Springs in the regular season finale. The Broncos fall to 3-6 with the loss and will return home next week for their regular season finale against Fairview.
