CULLMAN, Ala. – Senior Fair Day 2021 was back Wednesday after being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. The Coca-Cola Theater was full of Cullman County’s 60 and over crowd, as it was their turn to have a little fun at the Cullman County Fair.
Many of the favorite contests were back this year including buck dancing and pig calling. Cullman County Commission Chairman Jeff Clemons, Commissioners Kerry Watson and Garry Marchman and District Attorney Wilson Blaylock joined in on the fun as they danced to “Rocky Top.”
The ladies of the Silver Spirit Kickers from Cullman’s Active Adult Center fired up the crowd with several high-energy dance routines. Also entertaining and serving as emcee was Ms. Senior Alabama 2021 Tammy Little Haynes. United States Senate candidate Katie Britt also stopped by and spoke to the crowd.
This year, the seniors were able to take a spin on the carousel and Ferris wheel, as well as visiting the many exhibits. Barbara Ruebush made her way through the displays of judged items and was thrilled to learn she had done quite well with her entries. She said, “All of my entries won something. I got five blue, four red and one white.”
More than anything, the seniors the Tribune spoke with were happy to feel included again. After having most senior events cancelled for more than a year, the return of senior events, including Oktoberfest, has been a relief.
