GOOD HOPE, Ala. — Fairview traveled to take on Good Hope in Thursday afternoon volleyball action. In their final regular season match, the Lady Raiders got all they could handle from the Lady Aggies, but they ended up sweeping Fairview 3-0.
Good Hope 25 – Fairview 22 (1st set)
Good Hope jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, but Fairview went on a little mini-run and an ace by Jaycee Aleman tied the game up at four. Each team went back-and-forth for a little while, then three straight points by the Lady Raiders, including a kill by Katie Creel and an ace by Kyndall Seal, gave them a 9-7 lead. A kill by Ivey Maddox helped stretch the Good Hope lead to 15-9 and later on, they made it 18-11 after a point by Bailey Keef. But the Lady Aggies made it really interesting towards the end of the first set, as back-to-back kills by Kabri Redding and Ava Calvarese helped cut the deficit to 21-16, then a point by Laci Segrest made it a four-point contest. The Lady Raiders made it 24-20 on a Maddox kill, but a point by Fairview’s Cassidy Hutchison helped make it 24-22, but Maddox got the final kill to help seal the 25-22 gut-wrenching win in the first set.
Maddox finished with three kills, a dig, and a point for Good Hope. Keef added three points, an ace and a kill. Ruby Lucas ended up with three points. Charly Johnson added a pair of kills. Seal ended up with an ace and a point. Creel finished with a kill and a point, while Addie Stripling chipped in with a couple of digs. For Fairview, Hutchison finished with two points and a kill. Redding added a pair of kills. Segrest ended up with a kill and a point. Aleman added an ace and Calvarese chipped in with a kill.
Good Hope 25 – Fairview 23 (2nd set)
The second set was similar to the first, as both teams went back-and-forth for the whole set. A kill by Keef helped give Good Hope a 6-3 lead and an ace by Seal made it 8-4, but Fairview made it 8-7 after an ace of their own by Abby McDonald. The deficit was no more than five for the whole contest. A Maddie McKenney ace helped increase the Lady Raider lead to 14-9, but the Lady Aggies didn’t let them get out to a much bigger lead than that as huge kills by Emma Garcia, Hutchison, and Segret helped them keep the deficit at three several times during the second set. Fairview cut the deficit to 24-23 after a Sadie Smith kill, but a huge point by Keef helped give the Lady Raiders a 25-23 win.
Maddox finished with three points, a pair of kills, and a block point for Good Hope. Keef added a trio of kills, a pair of points, and a block point. McKenney ended up with a pair of aces and a dig. Johnson added a kill and a block point. Seal finished with an ace. Creel chipped in with a kill and Stripling finished with yet another dig. For Fairview, Hutchison finished with a game-high four kills. Segrest added three kills of her own, along with an ace. Garcia ended up with a kill as well. McDonald added an ace. Smith chipped in with a kill and Calvarese finished with a point.
Good Hope 25 – Fairview 19 (3rd set)
Good Hope got off to a really fast start in the third set. Behind a pair of kills by Maddox, a kill by Lucas, and an ace each by McKenney and Emma Bailey, the Lady Raiders ran off to a quick 6-1 lead. But as you already guessed, Fairview quickly went on a little mini-run as they made it 6-4 after an Allie Scott ace. Every time that Good Hope tried to pull away from the Lady Aggies, Fairview came right back with a little run of their own. A huge dig by Stripling later led to a Seal kill and that gave the Lady Raiders a 14-9 lead. Another huge dig, this time by Maddox, later led to a Keef kill, and that helped stretch the Good Hope lead to 19-13. But the Lady Aggies cut the deficit to 20-17 on an ace by Calvarese. Back-to-back key aces by Stripling, plus a point by Maddox, helped push the Lady Raider lead to 24-17. Fairview looked for one more big run as a Garcia ace cut the deficit to 24-19, but Maddox quickly put an end to the game as her kill helped seal the 25-19 win for the Lady Raiders.
Maddox finished with four more kills in the third set for Good Hope (26-11). Keef added three more kills. McKenney and Stripling each finished with a couple of aces; McKenney added a dig as well. Creel and Lucas each finished with a kill. Seal added a kill and an ace while Bailey and Marlee Williams each finished with an ace. For Fairview, Redding had a huge game as she finished with four kills and two points. Hutchison added a trio of kills. Smith, Segrest, and Scott all finished with an ace each while Garcia chipped in with a point.Â
Good Hope will now start preparing for the area tournament that will begin Thursday, and they will take on the Curry-Hanceville winner for the area championship at 2:30 p.m. Fairview will travel to take on Lawrence County Tuesday at 4 p.m.
