HANCEVILLE – Wallace State’s baseball team had its season end Monday in the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC)/Region 22 quarterfinals in Ozark, losing to Marion Military Institute 10-0 in five innings at Eagle Stadium.

Marion Military Institute grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning, added three runs in the third and tacked on five more in the fourth inning. The Tigers ended the game with a run in the fifth inning.

Cole Collins had a pair of hits, including a double, for Wallace State. Stephen Dobbs added a single.

After losing their tournament opener last Friday, the Lions won two games in a row to advance to Monday’s quarterfinal round, including eliminating second-seeded L.B. Wallace on Sunday and top-seeded Shelton State on Sunday.

Wallace State closes the season with a 34-25 record.

The Lions were seeking to repeat last season’s feat of advancing to the ACCC title game after reeling off five consecutive wins in the elimination bracket.

Wallace State coach Randy Putman, who has 973 career victories at Wallace State, has led the Lions to the postseason in 25 of 27 seasons.

Wallace State sophomores this season were Dobbs, Turner Vincent, Lance Cleveland, Garrett Suchey, Darien Prewett, Chris Steele, Lane Wallace, Jansen Acton, Will Eiland, Ryan Goodman, Gerrio Rahming, Andrew Plunkett, Lane Meyer, Brantley Ballenger and Wes Crawford.

Many Wallace State sophomores have signed with four-year schools to continue their baseball careers next season.

Dobbs and Vincent were All-Tournament selections last season.
