WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Town Council approved it’s FY2022 budget Monday evening. The council passed a $555,812.00 budget, a significant increase over last year’s $415,812.00 budget, due in part to an increase in expected tax revenue. The town has an expected $365,684 in expenditures.
Mayor Gerald Schafer and the council also proclaimed September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. He spoke of the late Maggie Grant and her family as the inspiration behind the proclamation. Schafer had a special plaque made to present to the Grant family to honor Maggie.
West Point resident Brandi Thrasher addressed the council and pitched her idea for the Warrior Way Market- a monthly market featuring West Point small businesses and vendors. Thrasher envisions the market being a unique opportunity for local talents to be spotlighted while being a positive event for the community as a whole.
She promised that the money raised from the small vendor fees would be donated back to the community and that West Point vendors would be given priority to the vendor spaces. The council was in support of the plan and the first Warrior Way Market will take place on Saturday, October 16 in the West Point Town Hall parking lot.
The West Point Town Council meets on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at West Point Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
