BREMEN, Ala. — Cold Springs hosted Aliceville on Friday night in a big region game, looking for its first win of the season but despite fighting hard for four quarters, the Eagles were unable to get on the board and the Yellow Jackets left with a 37-0 win.

The combination of Hank Harrison and Joshua Winfrey helped Cold Springs get a first down after three plays, but a false start quickly brought their opening series to a halt as they were forced to punt. But the Eagle defense forced a punt of their own on its opening defensive series. After quickly getting another first down on a Harrison nine-yard run, they got stuffed on three straight plays and were forced to punt. The Yellow Jackets quickly took advantage of the short field as on just the second play of its series, they scored on a 35-yard run to make it an 8-0 score with 2:23 to go in the opening quarter.

The Eagles punted on its next possession, and it was touched by an Aliceville player; Cold Springs’ Zeke White recovered the ball at the 41-yard line. Winfrey picked up a huge first down on fourth-and-two, but they didn’t do much the rest of the series as Seth Williams got sacked on fourth down to force the Eagles to turn the ball over on downs. For the second straight series, the Yellow Jackets found the end zone in a hurry as they scored on a 45-yard run on their third play to make it 16-0. Another Eagle punt had Aliceville backed up at the two-yard line, but the Eagle defense couldn’t take advantage as during the drive, a 48-yard screen pass put the Yellow Jackets at the 30-yard line. Aliceville found the end zone on the next play as a 30-yard touchdown pass increased the Eagle deficit to 24-0 and that was the score at the half.

Another miscue by Aliceville, this time, on the opening kickoff, allowed Cold Springs’ Matthew Williams to recover the ball as they looked to start the second half strong, but it wasn’t to be as another punt gave the ball back to the Yellow Jackets and a 79-yard touchdown pass made the score 30-0. The Yellow Jackets scored for the final time in the game on an 18-yard run. The Eagles kept battling on both sides of the ball and kept fighting, but in the end, Aliceville was too much for them and Cold Springs got shut out by the Yellow Jackets 37-0.

Harrison finished with 63 rushing yards, while Winfrey added 41 more on the ground for Cold Springs (0-4, 0-2). White and Williams each finished with a fumble recovery for the Eagles while Harrison added a sack. The Eagles will look to pick up their first win next Friday when they travel to Falkville for a non-region game.
