Saturday night, May 14, at The Cotton Gin is guaranteed to be an entertaining and maybe even a bit of a rowdy night. Local country sensation, Lane Maury, is slated to begin picking and grinning at 6 p.m., and his music, along with The Cotton Gin’s fine seafood, will have everybody delighted and wanting more. He promised, “Saturday night at the Cotton Gin, everybody can expect a good time, some real country music like people don't get to hear anymore. No pop country, though, but maybe even some southern rock. It’ll definitely be a good time!” The Cotton Gin is conveniently located in Good Hope at 123 Lindsey Road off of Old Highway 69. Maury will be taking the stage at 6 p.m. and admission is free.

May 14 at 8 a.m. Where mud and mayhem come together. Runners will grind their way through the challenging course which will feature: crawling through grimy mud, climb over high walls, splash across a wooden bridge, and traverse through obstacles packed throughout this muddy course. With spectators cheering, this event will surely be a memorable experience for anyone daring to take on the Stony Lonesome Mud Run! Registration is $30, 13 and up only!
Holly Pond Lions Club Pancake Breakfast
Holly Pond Lions Club will be holding a pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 14. This event is traditionally a very successful fundraising occasion, with proceeds going for upkeep of the Holly Pond Cemetery. It will be held at the Senior Center in Lions Club Park starting at 6 a.m. and continuing until 10 a.m. Our Lions always work very hard and do a great job with this event.
The Cullman City Parks and Recreation Foundation Board will be hosting its inaugural Dinner on First event to raise funds for the planned Connected Park project, which will feature an all-inclusive playground accessible to children of all abilities and special needs. The event is slated to kick off on Saturday, May 14, at 6 p.m. Catered by Dyron’s Low Country Restaurant. The farm-to-table style meal will be hosted in the historic Warehouse District on First Avenue just south of the Festhalle Marketplatz. An after party will kick off at 8:30 p.m. where acoustic group Round 2 will provide music to accompany many other activities. 3rd Annual Nicholas Fillinger Memorial Run 5K Run/Walk
Saturday, May 14, 8 a.m. at St. Bernard Trails, 1600 St. Bernard Dr. SE. Nicholas died tragically in a training accident in September 2013. St. Bernard was one of his favorite places to run.
The run benefits the Nicholas Fillinger Foundation as well as the Grace Chapel Choir (a youth community service choir) that Nicholas was a member of. The proceeds help fund their summer choir tour which is to San Diego, Phoenix and Las Vegas this year. In addition to musical performances they will be serving in various inner-city missions and helping with community service projects. The Nicholas Fillinger Foundation ministers to orphans and children rescued from human trafficking. It also ministers locally in educating young athletes about safe and healthy training techniques.
